Patrick Mahomes’ Fiancée Brittany Matthews Announces Big-Time Financial Investment

One of the most popular couples in the sports world is Patrick Mahomes and his fiancée Brittany Matthews. It has been quite a year for the two of them, too. Mahomes won a Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs in February and then later got a massive contract extension with the organization. He also proposed to Matthews this year before announcing that the two are expecting their first child in 2021. Now, there is some more big news coming from the power couple. After seeing Mahomes become a part-owner of a professional sports team earlier this year, Brittany Matthews is now following in his footsteps.

In July, it was announced that Mahomes is now a member of the Kansas City Royals‘ ownership group.

“I’m honored to become a part owner of the Kansas City Royals,” Mahomes said in a release, according to USA Today. “I love this city and the people of this great town. This opportunity allows me to deepen my roots in this community, which is something I’m excited to do.”

This announcement came after Mahomes signed a 10-year extension with the Chiefs worth $503 million. It became the largest contract in sports history, according to NFL.com. He is also the first athlete to receive a half-billion-dollar contract.

“We are very proud and excited to have Patrick as our partner in the ownership group of this franchise,” Royals principal owner John Sherman said in a release, according to USA Today. “Along with the rest of Kansas City, I have watched Patrick compete and become an extraordinary leader, both on and off the football field.”

An ownership group led by Angie and Chris Long, and their Palmer Square Capital Management, was recently awarded a National Women’s Soccer League expansion team in Kansas City. According to USA Today, the league’s commissioner, Lisa Baird, said that the ownership group will receive Utah Royals FC’s player rights, draft picks, and other assets.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for our league,” Baird said, according to USA Today. “Kansas City is a soccer-rich community, and this fantastic ownership group is ready and able to commit the resources necessary for this club to be a massive success.”

According to ESPN, Dell Loy Hansen announced earlier this year that he would sell Utah Royals FC and Real Salt Lake of the MLS, as well as the assets for each team. This came after the MLS and NWSL investigated sexism and harassment within the ownership’s organization, Utah Soccer.

Kansas City previously had FC Kansas City, who won two consecutive National Women’s Soccer League titles in 2014 and 2015. The team, however, ultimately got sold to a Minnesota ownership group. That did not work out, though, and the assets for that team were then sent to Utah’s expansion team, according to ESPN.

The new Kansas City team already has a head coach as former FC Kansas City GM Huw Williams will take over the position. Williams worked closely with Vlatko Andonovski, who now coaches the U.S. Women’s National Team.

A part of the ownership group that received the expansion team is Patrick Mahomes’ fiancée Brittany Matthews.

“I have a true level of appreciation for what these incredible women do on a daily basis,” Matthews said in a statement, according to USA Today. “We have the greatest fans and community here in KC and I can’t wait to huddle around this team.”

Matthews has experience in soccer. USA Today reports that she played collegiately for the University of Texas-Tyler. She then played professionally with UMF Afturelding in Iceland. Now, she is not only a previous player but also a team owner.

Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Matthews have had a big year. This now also adds to their list of big-time recent milestones.
