Patrick Mahomes’ Fiancée Isn’t Afraid to Speak Her Mind

Patrick Mahomes has stolen the hearts of Kansas City residents. Not only have they been waiting for his talent, but his community work has made him a legend. (The Lombardi Trophy doesn’t hurt either.) Mahomes isn’t alone. His fiancée, Brittany Matthews, is always there whether it involves charity work or sideline tweets. We know a lot about half of the first couple of Kansas City, but who is Brittany Matthews exactly?

Matthews is a former professional soccer player and fitness trainer. She played collegiate soccer while earning her B.S. in Kinesiology from the University of Texas before signing to Iceland UMF Afturelding in 2017. She retired from soccer in 2018, after deciding her passion was in fitness rather than sport.

Matthews began work as a physical trainer, and her business grew rapidly aided by her large social media presence. She and Mahomes were high school sweethearts, got engaged in September, and in mid-October announced that Matthews is pregnant with their first daughter.

Matthews speaks her mind

Matthews speaks her mind on social media. Her live-tweeting commonly questions referee calls, and her celebrating is legendary or obnoxious, depending on your opinion of the Chiefs. Matthews there on multiple platforms of social media for the highs and lows of each game, though her commentary is never negative or attacking the other team.

She received some backlash on social media from Chiefs detractors, as well as harassment from Patriots fans at a 2019 away game she tweeted.

Mahomes and Matthews put down roots

Mahomes and Matthews aren’t planning on leaving Kansas City anytime soon. They both stay involved in the Kansas City community. Together they started the 15 and the Mahomies foundation, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for children’s community outreach.

In 2019, they spent $1.9 million on a house in the Mission Hills neighborhood of Kansas City. On a house tour with Bleacher Report, the couple said, “Setting down roots in Kansas City was huge for us. I think the people are what we love the most about Kansas City. We’re trying to be here for a long, long time.”

After retiring from soccer, Matthews began pursuing her passion for fitness. She regularly posts fitness videos on her Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat accounts, often using Mahomes to demonstrate. She also has her own line of fitness services and programs. She’s also involved in promoting foster programs for shelter pets in the Kansas City area and, alongside Mahomes, is an active spokesperson for BioSteel Sports Drink.

Kansas City’s first family

With an upcoming wedding and a baby on the way, Chief’s fans seem to love their royal couple. Established socialites of the Kansas City scene, they are active in the community and in charity. That, alongside Mahomes’ 10-year contract, and the fact that he just bought part ownership of the Kansas City Royals, it’s likely they mean it when they say they want to be in KC for a long time. Though Matthews’ outspokenness may annoy some opponents, they aren’t going anywhere soon.

Mahomes offered something special to Kansas City — a young, talented, and disciplined leader. That’s only half this story though. Brittany Mahomes offers the other half of what we don’t see in sports very often- young, accomplished power couples who want to put down roots, start a family, and back a community. Mahomes is what The Chiefs have needed for years, Mahomes and Matthews together are what Kansas City has needed.
