Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are seeking their Super Bowl title. Their first roadblock is the Cleveland Browns, a team that put up 48 points last week in a playoff victory over the rival Pittsburgh Steelers. Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., out for the season, made a bold prediction for the game and got the attention of Mahomes.

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs have been idle for a while

Rested or rusty? We’ll find out Sunday when the top-seeded Kansas City Chiefs host the Cleveland Browns for the right to advance to the AFC title game. The Chiefs finished with the conference’s best record at 14-2, while the Browns didn’t learn of their playoff fate until the final week of the regular season.

Kansas City earned the No. 1 seed and the first-round bye the accompanied it. Several of the Chiefs starters haven’t played since Dec. 27 when the Chiefs defeated the Atlanta Falcons. In the regular-season finale, Patrick Mahomes didn’t play as the Chiefs dropped their second game of the season, falling to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Mahomes and the Chiefs had been rolling. Mahomes is in the running for his second MVP. He finished the season with 4,740 passing yards and 38 touchdown passes. He threw just six interceptions.

The Cleveland Browns made a return to the playoffs

If it seemed like forever, it pretty much was. The Cleveland Browns returned to the playoffs for the first time since 2002 when they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 24-22 in Week 17. The Steelers rested many starters and dropped a 24-22 decision.

The decision to rest those players may have proven costly. The Steelers allowed the Browns to qualify for the postseason with that victory. That set up a rematch between the two teams the following week. Not only did the Steelers look rusty, but the Browns eliminated the Steelers after a 48-37 victory.

The Browns will look to make it two straight playoff wins when they head to Kansas City to face the Chiefs. It will have been three weeks since Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has taken a snap in a game. Kansas City enters as a 10-point favorite.

Patrick Mahomes ‘likes’ Odell Beckham’s prediction

Odell Beckham hasn’t been much help to the Cleveland Browns this season. He suffered a torn ACL in a Week 7 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals and has been lost for the season. Beckham, however, still isn’t providing much help to the team. Instead, he’s providing some bulletin-board material for the Chiefs.

Beckham decided to play the vague prediction game. “Don’t be suprised (sic) this weekend when they win….just throwin it out there now,” he tweeted. Whether he was speaking of the Browns or not, he caught the attention of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who ‘liked’ the post.

If the Chiefs are, indeed, rusty, the Browns have a shot. Beckham, a guy who won’t even be playing, just provided a little bit of extra juice for Mahomes and the Chiefs.
