Patrick Mahomes Is Already the Favorite to Win This Award in 2020
The Kansas City Chiefs, led by star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, snapped a 50-year championship drought after edging out the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 54. Mahomes has added another impressive notch to his belt early in his NFL career as he was the driving force to lead them to a comeback win. Despite coming off the most significant achievement, he is already in line to add yet another incredible feat in the 2020 season.

Mahomes entered the 2019 campaign after a breakout campaign that saw him earn his first MVP award behind a record-breaking performance.
Things had begun on a similar path, but a dislocated kneecap threw things off the track a bit as he missed a pair of games due to the injury. Mahomes returned to the field and picked up where he left off as he finished 10th with 4,031 passing yards with 26 touchdown passes to five interceptions while holding a 105.3 passer rating.
It wasn’t the type of eye-popping production that Mahomes had the season before, but he truly shined in the playoffs. He was the driving force of the team throughout their impressive run to the Super Bowl as he had 901 passing yards, 10 touchdown passes to two interceptions, and a 111.5 passer rating.
Mahomes helped guide his team back from double-digit deficits in each playoff game, which was topped by overcoming a 10-point margin in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl. He led three touchdown-scoring drives in the quarter that lifted the Chiefs to a Super Bowl win. That made him the youngest player to ever win an MVP award and Super Bowl, surpassing Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith for that mark.

Although it’s quite early in his career, Mahomes’ level of success and production has stacked up historically. He already established himself as an elite talent in the league that can be strongly argued as being the top quarterback.
The fact that he’s reached this level of performance this early in his career, it’s hard to envision him topping that. Mahomes has an opportunity in front of him to put together an illustrious career that could one day put him among the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history.
It may be too soon to put those type of expectations ahead of him, but he has that type of talent. Only time will tell, but there will certainly be many more entertaining seasons ahead for Mahomes in a Chiefs’ uniform.
