While the majority of the people in this country prefer the American brand of football, it’s the other other brand of the sport — the one with the same name, albeit spelled different — that captures the rest of the world’s attention. And if you think our people go gaga over our football players, that’s nothing compared to the love and adoration the received by the world’s best footballers.

Aside from taking a poll, it’d be extremely difficult to determine which soccer players find themselves among the most popular on the planet. However, we’ve found that a good place to start the discussion is with jersey sales. After all, if you’re not down with a particular player, why would you ever decide to spend money on their replica gear? You wouldn’t.

There’s no way we could possibly take credit for figuring out which soccer players have the top-selling jerseys in the world. That belongs to the good folks at Kitbag (via the Daily Express). And we are eternally grateful for all their hard work.

Since we’re never ones to sit on interesting bits of information, we decided to share the wealth. Therefore, if you were curious to know which soccer players ranked among the most popular players in the world, then take a look at the five individuals with the highest-selling jerseys in the game.

5. Eden Hazard

While Eden Hazard and the rest of his Chelsea teammates continue to struggle on the pitch during the 2015-16 season, that hasn’t stopped fans from going out and picking up his No. 10 jersey. According to Kitbag, the Belgian midfielder has the fifth highest-selling jersey in all of soccer. It probably has something to do with the fact that he is the reigning PFA Player of the Year. Just imagine how many jerseys he’d be selling if his team was near the top of the English Premier League standings.

4. Bastian Schweinsteiger

Despite completing a transfer to Manchester United from Bayern Munich this past summer, German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger hasn’t been producing quite like the Red Devils had hoped. Still, as we’ve seen before, just because a player isn’t performing on the field, that doesn’t mean people won’t show support by sporting their replica jerseys. This appears to be the case with Schweinsteiger, whose Man U top is the fourth highest-selling jersey in all of fútbol.

3. Memphis Depay

As far as surprises go, Man U’s Memphis Depay having the third highest-selling jersey in all of soccer takes the cake. It’s impossible to deny the 21-year-old’s talent. He has it in spades. However, since joining the club from PSV Eindhoven for £25 million this past summer, Depay has only shown glimpses of what made him so valuable to the team in the first place. In fact, his lifestyle is starting to worry the Manchester United brass. Regardless, as you can see, these concerns have clearly not affected his jersey sales.

2. Cristiano Ronaldo

As one of the top two players in the world, it’s only fitting that Cristiano Ronaldo‘s jersey sales are among the best in the game. Of course, when you consider how competitive the Real Madrid superstar is, we have a feeling he will not be satisfied with his place on this particular list. Our advice: keep doing what you’re doing. Everyone loves a goalscorer.

1. Lionel Messi

How popular is Lionel Messi? We’ll tell you.

The little magician and his family went to the Tivoli Theatre in Barcelona and, when the audience realized he was there, they simply applauded him. That’s how much soccer fans love the Barcelona superstar. When you look at it like that, is it any wonder he has the highest-selling replica jersey in all of soccer? We think not.
