Rafael Nadal captured his first Grand Slam title in 2005 at the French Open by defeating Mariano Puerta 6-7(6), 6-3, 6-1, 7-5. He won the French Open again in 2006, taking out Roger Federer 1-6, 6-1, 6-4, 7-6(4).

At the 2006 Wimbledon Final, Federer got his revenge against Nadal. The tennis icons faced each other in the championship match, with Federer winning 6-0, 7-6(5), 6-7(2), 6-3.

Nadal won his third Grand Slam title in 2007 at the French Open. The lefty beat Federer 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Nadal’s first four Grand Slam titles came at the French Open. He won the trophy again in 2008 over Federer.

It wasn’t until 2008 when Nadal finally won Wimbledon. The Spaniard defeated Federer 6-4, 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-7(8), 9-7 for his fifth Grand Slam title and his first one at the All England Club.

Nadal won his first Australian Open in 2009 over Federer and his first US Open in 2010 against Robin Soderling. Impressively, Rafa began his Grand Slam Finals career 10-2.

In 2011 and 2012, though, Nadal struggled against Novak Djokovic. He lost the 2011 Wimbledon Final, the 2011 US Open Final, and the 2012 Australian Open Final to Djokovic. Nadal has faced Djokovic nine times in a Grand Slam Final. He’s 5-4 versus The Joker, who has 18 Grand Slam titles in his career.

Roger Federer is 20-11 in Grand Slam Finals. While Rafael Nadal has 20 titles as well, he has fewer losses than the Swiss legend.

Nadal’s 20 Grand Slam Finals wins have come against Mariano Puerta (1), Roger Federer (6), Robin Soderling (1), Tomas Berdych (1), Novak Djokovic (5), David Ferrer (1), Stan Wawrinka (1), Kevin Anderson (1), Dominic Thiem (2), and Daniil Medvedev (1).

Meanwhile, Nadal’s eight losses are against Federer (3), Djokovic (4), and Wawrinka (1). He’s never lost in a French Open Final, but Nadal has lost three times in the Wimbledon Final, four times in the Australian Open Final, and once in the US Open Final.

Nadal, who swings left-handed but writes right-handed, has won 86 ATP singles titles during his career. He’s currently the No. 2 ranked tennis player in the world, trailing only Novak Djokovic.

It would be pretty neat if Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer face each other at the 2021 French Open. They are not only the two best tennis players of all time, but Rafa and Federer are also the most popular players.
