The Las Vegas Raiders made one of the biggest splashes of the NFL offseason by acquiring star wide receiver Davante Adams in a trade with the Green Bay Packers.
Adams was reluctant to play on the franchise tag in Green Bay and the two sides couldn’t reach a long-term deal, making the decision to trade him the obvious choice. As Adams teams up with former Fresno State teammate Derek Carr, he spoke on his tenure with the Packers and his time with Aaron Rodgers, giving him a rave review.
Davante Adams gets honest on his time with the Packers following move to the AFC West
As the Rodgers rumors swirled last offseason, the Packers QB-WR duo teased everybody with a “Last Dance” photo on social media.
As it turns out, the 2021 season was their last together, although not the way anybody expected it to unfold. Rodgers flirted with retirement and even a move to the Denver Broncos. Ultimately, he returned to the Packers on a three-year deal worth $150 million.
Then, the Adams trade went down, and things look much different in Wisconsin than they did at the beginning of NFL free agency. As Adams was welcomed into the Raiders organization, he made sure to give the Packers praise for how his career has gone up until now (h/t Joseph Salvador of Sports Illustrated).
“I’ll never take away anything from what Green Bay gave me, what Aaron gave me. It was an amazing opportunity to work over there and do what I did for almost a decade.”Davante Adams on GB
Adams was appreciative for everything the Packers gave him, and why wouldn’t he be? Even though he didn’t want to play on the tag, Green Bay decided to trade him to the Raiders — which is ultimately Adams’ preferred destination.
That is a classy move by the Packers, too, who could’ve opened the phone lines and traded him to the team that gave him the best offer.
Davante Adams hit longtime QB Aaron Rodgers with the ultimate praise
One of the best QB-WR duos is no more after an unbelievable run, and Adams made sure to speak on Rodgers.
“Me playing in Green Bay, a great situation, having the greatest quarterback to play the game, that’s a dream in itself.”Davante Adams
Adams called Rodgers “the greatest quarterback to play the game,” which is a pretty accurate assessment. Rodgers just won another NFL MVP award and was being courted heavily by many NFL teams if he hit free agency — even at the age of 38.
Rodgers remains one of the best in NFL history, although not having Adams will be a strange sight, especially for Packers fans.
Since 2020, the duo scored 29 touchdowns together. That is a remarkable feat, and it just shows how special their relationship was with one another.
At the end of the day, it didn’t come down to Rodgers. It didn’t come down to the Packers. Instead, Adams’ move was all about his burning desire to play with the Raiders and finally team up with Carr in the NFL.
The new Raiders WR wanted to play with Derek Carr once and for all
For years, Adams and Carr have been waiting for an opportunity to play together in the NFL. Last offseason, Carr revealed his master plans to recruit Adams when the time came.
Here we are.
Nearly a decade after the duo got drafted into the NFL following a historical career at Fresno State, they are together in Las Vegas.
Things look much different in SIn City than they did at the start of the 2021 season. Josh McDaniel came in as the new head coach, Dave Ziegler took over as the new general manager, and Chandler Jones came in to join Maxx Crosby to rush the quarterback.
No matter how much Adams enjoyed his time in Green Bay, no matter how much the Packers threw money at him and tempted him with the thought of another three years with Rodgers, Adams wanted to play with Carr. That was the selling point.
A new chapter begins for the Raiders and the Packers in one of the wildest offseasons in NFL history.
