Sunday, Dec. 20, 2020 in SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles was a day of celebration for the New York Jets fans, as their team outlasted the Los Angeles Rams in a 23-20 victory. The Jets rode a rushing game that produced 93 yards and one rushing touchdown, to go along with a Sam Darnold performance of 207 yards, one touchdown.
Darnold contributed to this win by completing 22 of 31 passes, finishing the game with 207 yards, zero interceptions, one touchdown and a QB rating of 99.80.
The ground game for the Jets saw Ty Johnson carrying the football 3 times, and Frank Gore helping with rushing the ball 23 times. The two rushers produced 16 yards and 59 yards respectively in a winning effort. The passing game for the Jets had Darnold tossing the football to Breshad Perriman and Jamison Crowder as his most productive targets. Perriman caught one pass for a net gain of 21 yards. The secondary target (Crowder) caught six passes for a net contribution of 66 yards.
The Jets were helped by a defensive effort that resulted in three sacks, and one tackle for loss, to go along with no forced fumbles, with no defensive touchdowns.
On the losing side of the game, Jared Goff of the Rams ended the day with two touchdowns, along with 209 yards, one interception, and a 89.00 passer rating.
The Rams’ rushing game was led by Cam Akers and Malcolm Brown. For the game, Akers carried the ball 15 times, rushed for 63 yards, and zero touchdowns. Brown supplemented and carried the ball a total of one time for a total of four yards. Meanwhile Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp were the top 2 aerial passing targets for the Rams. Woods caught six passes from Goff for a total of 56 yards, while Kupp contributed with 39 yards from five passes.
In a losing effort, the Rams defense contributed with two sacks , one forced fumble, one tackle for loss, and zero defensive touchdowns for the game.
The Jets walked away from the game with an improved seasonal record of 1-13. The Rams on the other hand, dropped to 9-5 for the season.
