Led by Roethlisberger, the Steelers Topped the Giants by a Gritty 26-16 Win

The Pittsburgh Steelers topped the New York Giants in a gritty victory of 26-16, Monday, Sep. 14, 2020 in MetLife Stadium in New York. For the win, Ben Roethlisberger threw for 229 yards, and three touchdowns. The Steelers also relied on a rushing game that produced 141 yards and zero rushing touchdowns.

Roethlisberger helped the Steelers in this victory by attempting 32 passes and completing 21 of them. This led to a final QB production of 229 yards, no interceptions and three touchdowns for the game.

James Conner and Benny Snell Jr. led the rushing game for the Steelers. Conner rushed for nine yards from carrying the football six times. Conner was helped by Snell Jr. who carried the football 19 times for a total of 113 yards. In the passing game, Roethlisberger was most successful throwing the ball to JuJu Smith-Schuster and Diontae Johnson. Smith-Schuster caught six passes for a total of 69 yards, while Johnson contributed with 57 yards from six passes.

Contributing to the victory was a defensive line stats of three sacks , no forced fumbles, two tackles for loss, and zero defensive touchdowns for the Steelers.

On the losing side of the game, Daniel Jones of the Giants ended the day with two touchdowns, along with 279 yards, two interceptions, and a 79.20 passer rating.

The Giants’ rushing game was led by Saquon Barkley and Dion Lewis. For the game, Barkley carried the ball 15 times, rushed for six yards, and no touchdowns. Lewis supplemented and carried the ball a total of one time for a total of one yard. Meanwhile Darius Slayton and Sterling Shepard were the top 2 aerial passing targets for the Giants. Slayton caught six passes from Jones for a total of 102 yards, while Shepard contributed with 47 yards from six passes.

In their loss, the Giants defense contributed with zero forced fumbles and eight tackles to go along with two sacks and no defensive touchdowns. This production from the Giants defense was not enough help get a win.

After this game, the Steelers improved to a record of 1-0, while the Giants dropped to a 0-1 record. After the win, the Steelers now have a 1-0 record, compared to the Giants who now have 0-1 record.
