Lock Put Up 189 Yards as the Denver Broncos Narrowly Defeated the New England Patriots 18-12

Sunday, Oct. 18, 2020 in Gillette Stadium in New England was a day of celebration for the Denver Broncos fans, as their team narrowly defeated the New England Patriots in a 18-12 victory. The Broncos rode a rushing game that produced 135 yards and zero rushing touchdowns, to go along with a Drew Lock performance of 189 yards, zero touchdowns.

Lock finished the game with zero touchdowns, completing 10 of 24 passes. At the end of the day, he finished with 189 yards and two interceptions, and a passer rating of 34.90.

The ground game for the Broncos saw Phillip Lindsay carrying the football 23 times, and Royce Freeman helping with rushing the ball eight times. The two rushers produced 101 yards and 26 yards respectively in a winning effort. The passing game for the Broncos had Lock throwing the football to Jerry Jeudy and Tim Patrick as his most productive targets. Jeudy caught two passes for a net gain of 32 yards. The secondary target (Patrick) caught four passes for a net contribution of 101 yards.

The Broncos were helped by a defensive effort that resulted in four sacks, and four tackles for loss, to go along with three forced fumbles, with no defensive touchdowns.

In a losing effort for the Patriots, Cam Newton attempted 24 passes and completed 17 of them. This performance resulted in 157 yards, two interceptions, no touchdowns and a passer rating of 51.60 for the game.

The Patriots’ rushing game was led by Rex Burkhead and Damien Harris. For the game, Burkhead carried the ball five times, rushed for 14 yards, and no touchdowns. Harris supplemented and carried the ball a total of six times for a total of 19 yards. Meanwhile Damiere Byrd and Isaiah Zuber were the top 2 aerial passing targets for the Patriots. Byrd caught three passes from Newton for a total of 38 yards, while Zuber contributed with 16 yards from one pass.

In their loss, the Patriots defense contributed with no forced fumbles and one tackle to go along with two sacks and no defensive touchdowns. This production from the Patriots defense was not enough help get a win.

With the win, the Broncos leave with a record of 1-0 for the season, while the Patriots record for the season is now 0-1.
