The Cleveland Browns knocked off the New York Giants in a gritty victory of 20-6, Sunday, Dec. 20, 2020 in MetLife Stadium in New York. For the win, Baker Mayfield threw for 297 yards, and two touchdowns. The Browns also relied on a rushing game that produced 106 yards and one rushing touchdown.
Mayfield contributed to this win by completing 27 of 32 passes, finishing the game with 297 yards, zero interceptions, two touchdowns and a QB rating of 126.20.
The ground game for the Browns saw Nick Chubb carrying the football 15 times, and D’Ernest Johnson helping with rushing the ball four times. The two rushers produced 50 yards and 24 yards respectively in a winning effort. The passing game for the Browns had Mayfield tossing the football to Rashard Higgins and Jarvis Landry as his most productive targets. Higgins caught four passes for a net gain of 76 yards. The secondary target (Landry) caught seven passes for a net contribution of 61 yards.
The Browns’ defense contributed to the win with one sack, one forced fumble, five tackles for loss, and scored no defensive touchdowns.
On the losing side of the game, Colt McCoy of the Giants ended the day with no touchdowns, along with 221 yards, zero interceptions, and a 82.90 passer rating.
The Giants’ rushing game was led by Wayne Gallman Jr and Alfred Morris. For the game, Gallman Jr carried the ball nine times, rushed for 29 yards, and no touchdowns. Morris supplemented and carried the ball a total of seven times for a total of 39 yards. Meanwhile Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton were the top 2 aerial passing targets for the Giants. Shepard caught four passes from McCoy for a total of 51 yards, while Slayton contributed with 74 yards from four passes.
Although their team lost the game, the Giants defense ended the game with one sack, and two tackles for loss, to go along with no forced fumbles.
After this game, the Browns improved to a record of 10-4, while the Giants dropped to a 5-9 record.
