Mullens and the 49ers Cruised Past the Jets in a Lopsided 31-13 Victory

The San Francisco 49ers cruised past the New York Jets in a lopsided victory of 31-13, Sunday, Sep. 20, 2020 in MetLife Stadium in New York. For the win, Nick Mullens threw for 71 yards, and zero touchdowns. The 49ers also relied on a rushing game that produced 182 yards and two rushing touchdowns.

Mullens ended the game with 71 yards passing, to go along with zero touchdowns, one interception, and completing 8 of 11 passes. This performance led to a 51.70 passer rating for Mullens.

The ground game for the 49ers saw Raheem Mostert carrying the football 8 times, and Jerick McKinnon helping with rushing the ball three times. The two rushers produced 92 yards and 77 yards respectively in a winning effort. The passing game for the 49ers had Mullens throwing the football to Brandon Aiyuk and Kendrick Bourne as his most productive targets. Aiyuk caught two passes for a net gain of 21 yards. The secondary target (Bourne) caught four passes for a net contribution of 67 yards.

The 49ers’ defense contributed to the win with one sack, no forced fumbles, seven tackles for loss, and scored zero defensive touchdowns.

For the losing team, Sam Darnold finished the game completing 21 of 32 passes to lead the way for the Jets. This performance by Darnold led to a QB rating of 90.50, and game stats of 179 yards, zero interceptions and one touchdown.

The rushing game for the Jets was led by Frank Gore and La’Mical Perine. For the game, Gore rushed for 63 yards from carrying the football 21 times. Meanwhile Perine carried the ball 3 times for a total of 17 yards. For the passing game, the top receivers for the Jets included Braxton Berrios and Chris Hogan. Berrios caught six passes for a total of 59 yards, while Hogan contributed with 75 yards from six passes.

In their loss, the Jets defense contributed with one forced fumble and three tackles to go along with three sacks and zero defensive touchdowns. This production from the Jets defense was not enough help get a win.

The 49ers walked away from the game with an improved seasonal record of 1-0. The Jets on the other hand, dropped to 0-1 for the season.
