The Carolina Panthers showed up Sunday, Sep. 27, 2020 in SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles and narrowly defeated the Los Angeles Chargers by a nail-biting 21-16 victory. The Panthers deployed a rushing game that produced 81 yards and zero rushing touchdowns, to go along with a total team offensive output of 302 yards. Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater contributed with 235 yards and one touchdown for the game.
Bridgewater contributed to this win by completing 22 of 28 passes, finishing the game with 235 yards, zero interceptions, one touchdown and a QB rating of 113.50.
The Panthers deployed a rushing game led by Reggie Bonnafon and Mike Davis. For the game, Bonnafon carried the ball two times and rushed for 16 yards, leading to no touchdowns. Davis supplemented by carrying the ball 13 times for a total of 46 yards. In the passing game, the Panthers’ top receivers were Robby Anderson and D.J. Moore. Anderson caught five passes for a total of 55 yards, while Moore contributed with 65 yards from two passes.
On the defensive side of the football, the Panthers produced two forced fumbles, four tackles for loss, two sacks and no defensive touchdowns.
Justin Herbert led the Chargers in a losing effort with 330 yards, completing 35 of 49 passes, one interception, and one touchdown, for a QB rating of 88.00.
The Chargers’ rushing game was led by Joshua Kelley and Austin Ekeler. For the game, Kelley carried the ball eight times, rushed for 43 yards, and no touchdowns. Ekeler supplemented and carried the ball a total of 12 times for a total of 59 yards. Meanwhile Keenan Allen and Jalen Guyton were the top 2 aerial passing targets for the Chargers. Allen caught 13 passes from Herbert for a total of 132 yards, while Guyton contributed with 23 yards from two passes.
In their loss, the Chargers defense contributed with zero forced fumbles and two tackles to go along with two sacks and zero defensive touchdowns. This production from the Chargers defense was not enough help get a win.
After this game, the Panthers improved to a record of 1-0, while the Chargers dropped to a 0-1 record. After the win, the Panthers now have a 1-0 record, compared to the Chargers who now have 0-1 record.
