The Kansas City Chiefs showed up Sunday, Dec. 27, 2020 in Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City and sneaked past the Atlanta Falcons by a nail-biting 17-14 victory. The Chiefs deployed a rushing game that produced 117 yards and zero rushing touchdowns, to go along with a total team offensive output of 395 yards. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes contributed with 278 yards and two touchdowns for the game.
Mahomes finished the game with two touchdowns, completing 24 of 44 passes. At the end of the day, he finished with 278 yards and one interception, and a passer rating of 79.60.
Le’Veon Bell and Darrel Williams led the rushing game for the Chiefs. Bell rushed for 30 yards from carrying the football seven times. Bell was helped by Williams who carried the football 10 times for a total of 46 yards. In the passing game, Mahomes was most successful throwing the ball to Tyreek Hill and Demarcus Robinson. Hill caught four passes for a total of 65 yards, while Robinson contributed with 29 yards from two passes.
With four forced fumbles, one tackle for loss and four sacks , the Chiefs got just the defensive help it needed to get the win.
In a losing effort for the Falcons, Matt Ryan attempted 44 passes and completed 27 of them. This performance resulted in 300 yards, zero interceptions, two touchdowns and a passer rating of 121.10 for the game.
The Falcons’ rushing game was led by Ito Smith and Brian Hill. For the game, Smith carried the ball 10 times, rushed for 46 yards, and zero touchdowns. Hill supplemented and carried the ball a total of seven times for a total of 36 yards. Meanwhile Calvin Ridley and Russell Gage were the top 2 aerial passing targets for the Falcons. Ridley caught five passes from Ryan for a total of 130 yards, while Gage contributed with 23 yards from four passes.
Although their team lost the game, the Falcons defense ended the game with zero sacks, and one tackle for loss, to go along with zero forced fumbles.
After the win, the Chiefs now have a 14-1 record, compared to the Falcons who now have a 4-11 record.
