The New Orleans Saints Sneaked Past the Carolina Panthers 27-24

Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020 in Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans was a day of celebration for the New Orleans Saints fans, as their team sneaked past the Carolina Panthers in a 27-24 victory. The Saints rode a rushing game that produced 138 yards and one rushing touchdown, to go along with a Taysom Hill performance of zero yards, no touchdowns.

Hill finished the game completing 1 of 1 passes, to lead the way for the Saints. He ended up with an overall QB rating of 79.20, coming from a performance that included zero yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions for the game.

The Saints deployed a rushing game led by Latavius Murray and Alvin Kamara. For the game, Murray carried the ball 11 times and rushed for 47 yards, leading to no touchdowns. Kamara supplemented by carrying the ball 14 times for a total of 83 yards. In the passing game, the Saints’ top receivers were Marquez Callaway and Tre’Quan Smith. Callaway caught eight passes for a total of 75 yards, while Smith contributed with 54 yards from four passes.

On the defensive side of the football, the Saints produced no forced fumbles, one tackle for loss, one sack and no defensive touchdowns.

On the losing side of the game, Teddy Bridgewater of the Panthers ended the day with two touchdowns, along with 254 yards, no interceptions, and a 128.30 passer rating.

The Panthers’ rushing game was led by Trenton Cannon and Mike Davis. For the game, Cannon carried the ball one time, rushed for seven yards, and no touchdowns. Davis supplemented and carried the ball a total of seven times for a total of 12 yards. Meanwhile Robby Anderson and D.J. Moore were the top 2 aerial passing targets for the Panthers. Anderson caught six passes from Bridgewater for a total of 74 yards, while Moore contributed with 93 yards from four passes.

In their loss, the Panthers defense contributed with one forced fumble and two tackles to go along with one sack and no defensive touchdowns. This production from the Panthers defense was not enough help get a win.

The Saints walked away from the game with an improved seasonal record of 1-0. The Panthers on the other hand, dropped to 0-1 for the season.
