The New Orleans Saints Topped the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a Gritty Victory of 34-23

Taysom Hill and the New Orleans Saints topped the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a gritty 34-23 victory, Sunday, Sep. 13, 2020 in Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. The Saints’ win was helped by a rushing game that produced 82 yards and one rushing touchdown, and by a 38 yards and zero touchdowns effort by Hill.

Hill ended the game with 38 yards passing, to go along with zero touchdowns, no interceptions, and completing 1 of 1 passes. This performance led to a 118.80 passer rating for Hill.

The ground game for the Saints saw Latavius Murray carrying the football 15 times, and Alvin Kamara helping with rushing the ball 12 times. The two rushers produced 48 yards and 16 yards respectively in a winning effort. The passing game for the Saints had Hill throwing the football to Michael Thomas and Deonte Harris as his most productive targets. Thomas caught three passes for a net gain of 17 yards. The secondary target (Harris) caught one pass for a net contribution of 17 yards.

The Saints were helped by a defensive effort that resulted in three sacks, and seven tackles for loss, to go along with one forced fumble, with one defensive touchdown.

On the losing side of the game, Tom Brady of the Buccaneers ended the day with two touchdowns, along with 239 yards, two interceptions, and a 78.40 passer rating.

The rushing game for the Buccaneers was led by Leonard Fournette and Ronald Jones. For the game, Fournette rushed for five yards from carrying the football five times. Meanwhile Jones carried the ball 17 times for a total of 66 yards. For the passing game, the top receivers for the Buccaneers included Scott Miller and Chris Godwin. Miller caught five passes for a total of 73 yards, while Godwin contributed with 79 yards from six passes.

In their loss, the Buccaneers defense contributed with no forced fumbles and two tackles to go along with one sack and zero defensive touchdowns. This production from the Buccaneers defense was not enough help get a win.

The Saints walked away from the game with an improved seasonal record of 1-0. The Buccaneers on the other hand, dropped to 0-1 for the season.
