The New England Patriots ran away the Los Angeles Chargers in a laughable 45-0 win, Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020 in SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. They deployed a rushing game that produced 165 yards, two rushing touchdowns, to support a Cam Newton performance of 69 yards and one touchdown.
Newton contributed to this win by completing 12 of 19 passes, finishing the game with 69 yards, no interceptions, one touchdown and a QB rating of 87.40.
Damien Harris and Sony Michel led the rushing game for the Patriots. Harris rushed for 80 yards from carrying the football 16 times. Harris was helped by Michel who carried the football 10 times for a total of 35 yards. In the passing game, Newton was most successful throwing the ball to Damiere Byrd and Gunner Olszewski. Byrd caught two passes for a total of 16 yards, while Olszewski contributed with 38 yards from one pass.
The Patriots were helped by a defensive effort that resulted in three sacks, and one tackle for loss, to go along with no forced fumbles, with zero defensive touchdowns.
On the losing side of the game, Justin Herbert of the Chargers ended the day with no touchdowns, along with 209 yards, two interceptions, and a 43.70 passer rating.
The rushing game for the Chargers was led by Kalen Ballage and Austin Ekeler. For the game, Ballage rushed for 34 yards from carrying the football seven times. Meanwhile Ekeler carried the ball 8 times for a total of 36 yards. For the passing game, the top receivers for the Chargers included Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. Allen caught five passes for a total of 48 yards, while Williams contributed with 43 yards from four passes.
In their loss, the Chargers defense contributed with one forced fumble and one tackle to go along with one sack and no defensive touchdowns. This production from the Chargers defense was not enough help get a win.
After the win, the Patriots now have a 6-6 record, compared to the Chargers who now have a 3-9 record.
