The Patriots Rode a 357 Yards Offensive Output and Topped the Dolphins 21-11

Powered by 155 yards from Cam Newton, and a total team offensive output of 357 yards, the New England Patriots topped the Miami Dolphins in a hard-fought 21-11 victory, Sunday, Sep. 13, 2020 in Gillette Stadium in New England. The Patriots rushing game contributed to this with with 217 yards and three rushing touchdowns, to support a 155 yards, zero touchdowns effort by Cam Newton.

Newton helped the Patriots in this victory by attempting 19 passes and completing 15 of them. This led to a final QB production of 155 yards, no interceptions and zero touchdowns for the game.

Rex Burkhead and Sony Michel led the rushing game for the Patriots. Burkhead rushed for 32 yards from carrying the football seven times. Burkhead was helped by Michel who carried the football 10 times for a total of 37 yards. In the passing game, Newton was most successful throwing the ball to N’Keal Harry and Julian Edelman. Harry caught five passes for a total of 39 yards, while Edelman contributed with 57 yards from five passes.

The Patriots were helped by a defensive effort that resulted in one sack, and four tackles for loss, to go along with no forced fumbles, with zero defensive touchdowns.

For the losing team, Ryan Fitzpatrick finished the game completing 20 of 30 passes to lead the way for the Dolphins. This performance by Fitzpatrick led to a QB rating of 44.60, and game stats of 191 yards, three interceptions and no touchdowns.

The Dolphins’ rushing game was led by Matt Breida and Myles Gaskin. For the game, Breida carried the ball five times, rushed for 22 yards, and no touchdowns. Gaskin supplemented and carried the ball a total of nine times for a total of 40 yards. Meanwhile DeVante Parker and Preston Williams were the top 2 aerial passing targets for the Dolphins. Parker caught four passes from Fitzpatrick for a total of 47 yards, while Williams contributed with 41 yards from two passes.

Although their team lost the game, the Dolphins defense ended the game with two sacks, and two tackles for loss, to go along with one forced fumble.

The Patriots walked away from the game with an improved seasonal record of 1-0. The Dolphins on the other hand, dropped to 0-1 for the season.
