The Vikings Rode a 487 Yards Offensive Output and Knocked Off the Lions 34-20

The Minnesota Vikings knocked off the Detroit Lions in a gritty victory of 34-20, Sunday, Nov. 8, 2020 in US Bank Stadium in Minnesota. For the win, Kirk Cousins threw for 220 yards, and three touchdowns. The Vikings also relied on a rushing game that produced 275 yards — 206 from Dalvin Cook — and two rushing touchdowns.

Cousins finished the game with three touchdowns, completing 13 of 20 passes. At the end of the day, he finished with 220 yards and zero interceptions, and a passer rating of 141.70.

Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison led the rushing game for the Vikings. Cook rushed for 206 yards from carrying the football 22 times. Cook was helped by Mattison who carried the football 12 times for a total of 69 yards. In the passing game, Cousins was most successful throwing the ball to Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen. Jefferson caught three passes for a total of 64 yards, while Thielen contributed with 38 yards from two passes.

On the defensive side of the football, the Vikings produced one forced fumble, no tackles for loss, two sacks and zero defensive touchdowns.

On the losing side of the game, Matthew Stafford of the Lions ended the day with one touchdown, along with 211 yards, two interceptions, and a 73.80 passer rating.

The Lions’ rushing game was led by D’Andre Swift and Adrian Peterson. For the game, Swift carried the ball 13 times, rushed for 64 yards, and zero touchdowns. Peterson supplemented and carried the ball a total of eight times for a total of 29 yards. Meanwhile Danny Amendola and Marvin Jones Jr. were the top 2 aerial passing targets for the Lions. Amendola caught seven passes from Stafford for a total of 77 yards, while Jones Jr. contributed with 43 yards from three passes.

In their loss, the Lions defense contributed with no forced fumbles and two tackles to go along with one sack and no defensive touchdowns. This production from the Lions defense was not enough help get a win.

The Vikings walked away from the game with an improved 3-5 record for the season. The Lions on the other hand, dropped to 3-5 for the season.
