Rob Gronkowski Took a Big Loss Over the Weekend Despite His Win at WrestleMania 36

Former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is a three-time Super Bowl champion. He was also, arguably, the greatest tight end to ever play in the NFL. Now, he has added something else to his already impressive resume. Gronkowski won a WWE 24/7 championship at WrestleMania 36 on Sunday.

Rob Gronkowski is staying busy in retirement

Obviously, Rob Gronkowski was busy during his playing career. He might be just as busy in retirement, though. Once he retired, Gronkowski joined FOX Sports as an NFL studio analyst. He contributes on FOX NFL Thursday and FOX NFL Sunday, according to his bio on FOXSports.com.

Then just last month, Gronkowski signed a deal with the WWE. He made his debut on SmackDown on March 20 and then competed at WrestleMania 36 on Sunday. Gronkowski also previously made an appearance on WrestleMania 33, according to Sports Illustrated.

Unfortunately, Gronkowski has had to begin his WWE career in front of empty stadiums because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“I’ve been to sold out WrestleManias in front of 80,000 people and now I’m here in front of zero people and I’m still hype baby,” Gronkowski said on SmackDown, according to NFL.com. “But this time, I will be hosting WrestleMania, because I’m ready for anything.”

While he will certainly be busy training for his WWE career, Gronkowski will reportedly still do his FOX Sports gig, according to The Wrap

Winning a championship at WrestleMania 36

During WrestleMania 36 on Sunday, Gronkowski won his first WWE title. He ultimately pinned Mojo Rawley and won the 24/7 championship by a splash off the perch. This could possibly set up an eventual future match with Rawley, according to CBS Sports

The 24/7 championship can be challenged at any time as long as there is a referee present to count a pinfall. It was introduced in May 2019 and has had 96 title changes since its introduction, according to CBS Sports.

Additionally, Gronkowski joins a couple of other professional athletes to win the 24/7 title. Boston Celtics center Enes Kanter won it in September 2019 and NASCAR star Kyle Busch won it in December 2019.

Gronkowski also took a big loss this weekend

In addition to competing at WrestleMania this weekend, Gronkowski teamed up with his girlfriend Camille Kostek to compete in a virtual beer pong tournament hosted by singer, songwriter, and rapper Post Malone. The tournament, which is called The Ballina Cup, is raising money for COVID-19. Several other athletes are taking part in it including Travis Kelce, Johnny Manziel, Danny Amendola, Trevor Bauer, Mike Clevinger, Mallory Pugh, and Dansby Swanson. Other celebs are also competing in it like country singer Kane Brown and rapper Machine Gun Kelly.

Gronkowski and his girlfriend, model Camille Kostek took on Atlanta Braves shortstop Dansby Swanson and USWNT soccer star Mallory Pugh in the first round on Saturday. Swanson and Pugh ended up handing Gronkowski and Kostek the loss.

“I haven’t been practicing beer pong lately,” Gronkowski said via video on The Ballina-Cup Twitter. “I’ve been singing and dancing a lot lately, so those skills and my moves are pretty up to point. Dansby and [Mallory], they did a great job. They made a lot of shots together, they worked together as a team. Dansby swung for the fences and he hit a few home runs. You got to give it to him. He has a great batting average and he’s a good player.”

Swanson and Pugh will play the winner of MLB pitchers Trevor Bauer and Mike Clevinger in the quarterfinals.

Rob Gronkowski was a great NFL tight end for the New England Patriots. He also seems to be a pretty good wrestler so far. However, beer pong might be something Gronkowski is actually not good at.
