Russell Wilson, Davante Adams Among 5 Best Fantasy Football Performers in Week 1

Following much speculation regarding if the 2020 NFL season would get underway, Week 1 action is now nearly in the books. It featured plenty of big fantasy football outings for several notable names in the league. With that in mind, here are the top five performers for the opening week of the 2020 campaign ahead of the final two Monday night games that includes Russell Wilson and Davante Adams.

1. Davante Adams

ESPN: 41.6 PTS

The Packers headed into Week 1 action with questions about their ability to replicate their success from last season.

Green Bay answered the bell with their offense leading the charge in a comfortable win. Star wideout Davante Adams was the primary beneficiary from Aaron Rodgers’ impressive performance as he racked up 14 catches on 17 targets for 156 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. The first came on a vintage Rodgers’ throw on the run that saw Adams’ tip-toe the sideline.

It should be much of the same for Pro Bowler throughout the 2020 season as he’s an elite fantasy football option and the Packers’ clear-cut No.1 receiver. There will be plenty more opportunities for him to rack up strong outings.

2. Josh Jacobs

ESPN: 35.9 PTS

The Las Vegas Raiders got their 2020 season off on the right foot with a strong performance etching out a Week 1 road win over the Carolina Panthers.

It was the Josh Jacobs show as he anchored the Raiders’ offensive attack with 93 rushing yards on 25 carries with three touchdowns. He also recorded four receptions on six targets for 46 receiving yards. The Panthers had no answer for Jacobs running the ball as he pounded his three touchdowns from the goal line.

The second-year back is looking to build off his impressive rookie year that saw him finish first among first-year players with 1,150 rushing yards, seven rushing touchdowns, and 88.6 rushing yards per game. Jacobs will have every opportunity to move well beyond that in 2020.

3. Calvin Ridley

ESPN: 33.9 PTS

The Atlanta Falcons entered the 2020 campaign looking to shake off their struggles from last season.

Although they fell well short to Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1 action, it featured a strong outing from their passing game. The Falcons ditched their running game due to playing from behind, which saw Calvin Ridely put together a huge performance. Ridley notched nine catches on 12 targets for 130 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

The former Alabama product has struggled with injuries throughout his brief career but has shown elite ability when healthy. If he can avoid being sidelined, Ridley should be in line for a career-best year that may put him among the top fantasy football wideout options.

4. Russell Wilson

ESPN: 31.7 PTS

Seahawks fans finally got what they asked to see for years as Russell Wilson guided their offense with his arm in Week 1 action.

Wilson put together a masterful performance as he completed 31-of-35 passes for 322 yards with four touchdowns and a 143.1 passer rating. He also added 29 rushing yards on three attempts. His outing saw him join Steve Young as the only players to record 30,000 passing yards and 4,000 rushing yards.

Wilson picked apart the Falcons defense with three different players recording a touchdown reception. There will be plenty of strong outings ahead for Wilson in 2020 as he vies for his first MVP award.

5. Adam Thielen

ESPN: 31.0 PTS

The Minnesota Vikings underwent some notable changes offensively over the offseason, highlighted by Stefon Diggs’ departure.

All that didn’t change the fact that Pro Bowler Adam Thielen is still the Vikings’ top receiving option. Thielen put that on display against the Packers as he notched six catches on eight targets for 110 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Minnesota may have a more balanced offensive attack due to Dalvin Cook’s presence in the running game, but Thielen will get his chances to rack up big performances. Health permitting, Week 1’s outing, should set the tone for Thielen to put forth another stellar campaign.
