Over the last several days, there has been a bit of back-and-forth through the media between Hall of Famer Charles Barkley and Draymond Green. A subtle shot from Barkley to Green started the entire situation that foreseeably led to the latter to indulge in the conversation, which he responded in the only way he knows how back at the all-time great. It didn’t take long for Barkley to fire off a string of comments back at the Golden State Warriors star forward.
How Charles Barkley/Draymond Green rift started
Over the years, Barkley has been quite firm in his stance on how he feels about Green’s role in Golden State’s success over the last several years.
He has felt that the Warrior forward has been a role player in the team’s contribution on the floor that has played alongside some elite players over the years in Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Kevin Durant. That recently led to Barkley voicing that Green was averaging “triple singles” for a last-place team.
That didn’t take long for Green to fire back, stating that he could perform the Hall of Famer’s job better than him, according to Nick Friedell of ESPN.
“Barkley should stop before I go take his job, though,” Green said after Friday’s practice. “Because I can do that well, too. He already didn’t make enough money playing, so he needs that job. He should stop talking to me. I’d like to — [I have] a tendency to end people, so he should stop before I take his job.”
He also voiced that Barkley can’t talk to him because he didn’t have any championships. Green isn’t one to back down from trash talk and fire back when a shot is taken directly at him. However, neither is Barkley as he has issued another response to the Warriors’ forward’s comments.
Charles Barkley fires back again at Draymond Green
Throughout his career and post his playing days, Barkley hasn’t been one to back down from my criticism or comments directed at him.
During an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show on Tuesday morning, Barkley once stated that Green believes he’s a star and more than just a role player in the Warriors’ success, which used a boy band reference to make that even more clearer.
That comes after he stated to TMZ that Green wouldn’t take his job on TNT’s Inside the NBA as he believes the 30-year-old has a “perfect face for radio. Barkley did voice that he thinks the Warriors is a good guy and that he loves to poke fun at him.
It’s a back-and-forth saga that may come to an end soon, but it has been entertaining with each of them showing they excel at the art of trash talk.
Will Draymond Green respond again?
It’s only a matter of time before the newest comments get back to Green, but there’s no certainty that he will fire back once again. Barkley said what he had to say, and there may not be any more to add on his end of things to the discussion.
However, Barkley did a shot at his looks, which could see the Warriors forward at least defend himself on that end. Nonetheless, it’s a bit of playful banter between the two that has had some entertaining moments along the way for however long this conversation last through the media.
There isn’t any bad blood between the two of them, but healthy mutual respect. It’s was just a matter of Green defending himself from the subtle shot that Barkley took at him, and things will be smoothened over down the line.
