The San Francisco 49ers’ $32.2 Million Choice Will Determine if NFL Network’s Rich Eisen Suffers Through a Disgusting Meal

The San Francisco 49ers aren’t only selecting their potential franchise quarterback in the 2021 NFL draft. The team will also determine if NFL Media’s Rich Eisen battles an upset stomach in the process.

Despite still having Jimmy Garoppolo on the active roster, the 49ers are expected to use the third overall pick on a quarterback. And if they don’t do that, then Eisen may have strong words for Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers.

At this point, the expectation is that the San Francisco 49ers will draft a quarterback — likely one of Mac Jones, Justin Fields, and Trey Lance — with the third overall pick.

There are some fans out there who don’t buy that idea, though. A listener recently called into The Rich Eisen Show and discussed the idea of San Francisco passing on a quarterback with Eisen, who will host the draft for NFL Network.

Eisen and the caller eventually made an on-air wager, one that may come back to haunt the longtime sportscaster. If the 49ers don’t draft a quarterback in the first round, Eisen will eat a filthy sweatshirt belonging to the caller.

In an interview with The Athletic, Eisen shared how confident he is about winning that wager.

“[Niners coach] Kyle Shanahan talked after the trade about a quarterback coming and that it does not preclude Jimmy Garoppolo from still being their quarterback, certainly for the upcoming season. So this is not a non-quarterback coming, and there will be no sweatshirt coming my way. I’m fully confident.”

Mark our words, Eisen has now spoken the 49ers drafting Florida tight end Kyle Pitts into existence.

In all seriousness, let’s assume that the 49ers draft a quarterback and avoid making Eisen eat a dirty sweatshirt.

As of publication, Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence had all but officially signed his first contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The New York Jets are expected to select BYU’s Zach Wilson with the second overall pick.

So what will the 49ers do with the third pick? NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday, April 25, that the 49ers would likely either choose Jones or Lance.

Jones torched SEC defenses last year and led Alabama to a national championship victory over Fields and Ohio State. The fourth-year junior set an FBS single-season record by completing 77.4% of his passes in 2020.

Lance, from North Dakota State, dominated at the FCS level in 2019. However, Lance never started against an FBS team in college and will likely need to sit and grow for a year in the NFL.

Eisen will see the team’s decision up close in Cleveland

Eisen will be relatively up close when the 49ers make their draft choice.

Eisen is hosting all three days of the NFL Network’s on-site draft coverage from Cleveland. The 2021 NFL draft begins on Thursday, April 29, and ends on Saturday, May 1.

This entire situation is something out of a sitcom from the 1960s. Who will the 49ers select their quarterback of the future? Will Eisen be forced to consume a sweatshirt? Make sure to find out, right after the Jets likely botch yet another attempt at finding a franchise quarterback.
