Saquon Barkley: 3 Best Destinations If the Giants Decide to Trade Him

The New York Giants appear to be undergoing a fire sale. With a new general manager and head coach in town as they become the Buffalo Bills 2.0, the G-Men are kicking things off by garnering interest in several players. Star running back Saquon Barkley is one such player, and nobody knows exactly what the market will be like for him. Nonetheless, the Giants are exploring all options for some reason.

Teams across the NFL should at least have a bit of interest in Barkley, although he has played just 15 games combined over the past two seasons.

With all of that, here are the three best destinations for Barkley if he is traded, with team fit being used as the criteria (so no, the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans aren’t on this list).

Miami Dolphins

Unsurprisingly, the answer to that poll question is a resounding yes.

If the Giants are serious about shopping Barkley, the Miami Dolphins should be one of the first suitors. Myles Gaskin has been better than expected, but he isn’t an RB1 in the NFL.

New head coach Mike McDaniel loves to run the football — look at what he did with the San Francisco 49ers. Tua Tagovailoa could use a star RB next to him, and rookie sensation Jaylen Waddle burst onto the scene as Tagovailoa’s No. 1 option.

The best part about all of this is Barkley’s projected price — just a fourth-round pick.

That is too cheap for the Dolphins to pass on, especially with how he played his first year in the NFL, rushing for 1,307 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Buffalo Bills

Sure, the Buffalo Bills found Devin Singletary at the perfect time down the stretch. He ran well, and the Buffalo offense got a massive boost because of it.

But will Singletary be that guy again in 2022? Zack Moss looks like a huge bust, and even pairing Singletary and Barkley together would bring a massive smile to Josh Allen’s face.

The Bills are right on the cusp of AFC supremacy, and if Barkley can channel his rookie year vibes, Buffalo might begin the 2022 season as the favorite in the AFC.

The thought alone should be intriguing for the Bills, and it helps to have Joe Schoen in the front office in New York, not to mention the relationship with new Giants HC Brian Daboll.

Kansas City Chiefs

Let’s have some fun.

The Kansas City Chiefs finished a couple of plays away from a third straight Super Bowl. Unfortunately, Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals got in their way.

The Chiefs have a ton of talent, but the running back position isn’t one of their strong suits. Since coming out of LSU, Clyde Edwards-Helaire hasn’t lived up to the hype.

Jerick McKinnon came on in the playoffs, but that performance doesn’t seem sustainable one bit. Do the Chiefs sign somebody like James Conner of Chase Edmonds? Or do they try and make a run at Barkley?

The thought of Barkley in the same offense as Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill, and Travis Kelce is simply unfair. But, it could happen, and the Chiefs could afford to toss a fourth-round pick to New York to see what happens.

Barkley returning even remotely close to his first two years in the NFL would send the Chiefs right back to the playoffs. The NFL shouldn’t let this happen, but the Chiefs should have already begun to call the Giants and inquire about Barkley’s price.
