Scottie Pippen Annihilated Kevin Durant for Taking Everything Personally: ‘That’s Kind of How Kevin Takes Anything Unless You’re Praising Him’

Chicago Bulls legend Scottie Pippen understands how talented Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant is. He just doesn’t believe the two-time champion has surpassed Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James as the best player in the NBA.

During his wide-ranging interview with Dan Patrick on the Dan Patrick Show, Pippen expanded on why he thinks LeBron is a better player than Durant. The six-time champion also annihilated the Nets swingman for taking everything personally and lashing out at people on social media.

Scottie Pippen: Kevin Durant takes everything personally unless you’re praising him

Pippen told Patrick he has nothing against Durant, who is undoubtedly one of the best scorers in NBA history. The 11-time All-Star has won four scoring titles and is fifth all-time in points per game. The Bulls icon just believes that LeBron is the better player and more equipped to carry a team.

When Patrick informed Pippen that he felt his take on Durant wasn’t personal, and it was him just doing his job as an analyst, the Hall of Famer agreed and took a shot at KD.

“Yeah, and that’s kind of how Kevin takes anything unless you’re praising him and pushing him up,” Pippen said. “I wasn’t trying to, in any way, belittle him. I think he’s a very talented player. He’s an MVP. He has two Finals MVPs. But still, the question that I answered was based on him and LeBron’s comparison.”

After Pippen’s comments to GQ about Durant and LeBron went viral, Durant took to social media to bash the Bulls great, proving Pippen’s point that he takes everything far too personally and may be insecure.

Kevin Durant ripped Scottie Pippen for not going into a playoff game in ’94

Durant may be the most active NBA player on Twitter. When a fan tagged him on the social media app and quoted Pippen’s comments about the differences between him and LeBron, Durant ripped Pippen for not going into Game 3 of the 1994 Eastern Conference Semifinals when Phil Jackson drew up the game-winning play for Toni Kukoc.

Pippen made headlines when he told Patrick that race played a role in Jackson’s decision to give Kukoc the shot over him. He called the Zen Master a racist.

It’s probably safe to assume that Pippen and Durant won’t become friends. The latter clearly didn’t appreciate the former criticizing his game despite giving it his all in Game 7 of the second round against the Milwaukee Bucks.

KD has been responding to trolls ever since he left OKC

Ever since he left the Oklahoma City Thunder in the summer of 2016, Durant has been responding to trolls on social media, sometimes even through burner accounts. It shows how insecure he is. The fact that one of the greatest players in NBA history needs to argue with random people and uses burner accounts proves how mentally and emotionally fragile he is.

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith called Durant’s decision to sign with the Golden State Warriors the weakest move in NBA history since the 2013-14 MVP joined the team that defeated him in the 2016 Western Conference Finals and won 73 games without him. Even though he’s on the Nets now, Durant has had a difficult time escaping the criticism for joining Golden State, especially since he’s on another superteam in Brooklyn with James Harden and Kyrie Irving.

Pippen believes LeBron is better at carrying and leading a team to a championship than Durant because the four-time MVP doesn’t try to do it all by himself and trusts his teammates. It will be interesting to see who wins another title first between LeBron and Durant. It seems, though, that Pippen is leaning toward a healthy Lakers squad with the King leading the way due to James’ all-around game.
