Steve Kerr’s Net Worth Looks Pretty Nice After Winning Championships as a Player and as a Coach

Steve Kerr has more championship jewelry than a lot of people. Kerr won five NBA championships as a player with the Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs. He then, recently, won three championships as the head coach of the Golden State Warriors. All of the success Kerr had in his playing career, and all of the success he has had in his coaching career, has given him a pretty nice net worth.

Steve Kerr was a part of some great teams as a player

The Phoenix Suns drafted Steve Kerr in the second round of the 1988 NBA draft out of Arizona. Kerr only played in 26 games during his first season in the league. However, he played for the Cleveland Cavaliers the next season and quickly figured out his role. He only scored 6.7 points per game that season but he led the league in 3-point shooting.

Kerr then played for the Cavaliers until 1992-93 when the Cavs traded him to the Orlando Magic. He played for the Magic the rest of that season and then went to the Chicago Bulls in 1993-94. Kerr then had the four best seasons of his career with the Bulls over the next four seasons. He scored over eight points per game each season from 1993-94 through 1996-97. Those were the only seasons of his career he scored eight points per game or more.

Kerr was the sharpshooter on three Bulls championship teams from 1995-96 through 1997-98. He then went to the San Antonio Spurs in 1998-99 and won his fourth straight championship. Kerr then also won another championship with the San Antonio Spurs during the 2002-03 season, the final season of his playing career.

At the conclusion of his playing career, Kerr finished as a five-time NBA champion, averaged a career six points per game, and was a 45.4% career 3-point shooter.

Leading a dominant team as head coach

Kerr worked in the Phoenix Suns’ front office and as a broadcaster over the years. However, he took the head coaching position of the Golden State Warriors in 2014 and won even more championships. In Kerr’s first season with the Warriors, the team won its first championship since 1974-75.

The Warriors, under Kerr, then went to five straight NBA Finals. Despite going 73-9 in 2015-16, the Warriors lost in the Finals to the Cleveland Cavaliers that season. However, the team added superstar Kevin Durant during that offseason and won the next two championships. They dealt with injuries during the 2019 NBA Finals, though, and ultimately lost to the Toronto Raptors.

Kerr’s Warriors were one of the worst teams in the league this year before the season was suspended. However, stars Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson dealt with injuries and Kevin Durant left for the Brooklyn Nets this past offseason.

When the Warriors originally hired Kerr in 2014, they signed him to a five-year deal worth $25 million. The team then signed Kerr to an extension in 2018 but the details of the extension were unclear, according to ESPN.

Because of the money that Kerr has earned as a head coach, in addition to the money he earned as a player, broadcaster, and in the Suns’ front office, Kerr’s net worth is pretty high. His net worth is $18 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

If Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson come back and are still effective next season, though, his net worth could continue to rise. The Warriors will also have a top draft pick this offseason so they will add another talented player to their core which can help them even more.

Steve Kerr had success as a role player in the NBA, especially with the Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs. Now he is having success as a head coach. All of that success has made Steve Kerr a rich man.
