That Time a Dolphin Tried to Murder Former NBA Player Nick Young
Everyone has strange phobias. Perhaps it’s clowns, heights, or even children. Former NBA player Nick Young is no exception to being afraid, and he has one of the strangest phobias of all. He’s scared of dolphins. While you might think we’re referring to the NFL’s Miami Dolphins, we’re not. Young is scared of dolphins that swim in the sea. Why? Let’s find out.
Who is Nick Young?
Nick Young, perhaps more well known as Swaggy P, is a former NBA player. He was one of the most entertaining players on the court. Young played for the Washington Wizards, Golden State Warriors, and the LA Lakers in his long career.
Before he became the prophet of swag, he was just a talented young basketball player at Cleveland High School in Reseda, California. He spent his college years at USC from 2004-06. Young was then drafted to the Washington Wizards.
Young had a long spanning from career, with both the Wizards, the Lakers, and the Warriors. He then retired in 2018.
Nick Young is scared of dolphins?
It might be good advice to not tell your teammates what you’re afraid of. You’re sure to be in for some goodhearted teasing, and that’s exactly what happened to Young. Still, it was his girlfriend rapper Iggy Azalea who initially spilled the beans on Twitter.
According to ESPN, it was a Tuesday when Young admitted to his fears. He strolled into the Lakers’ locker room, then turned around and announced to his teammates that a dolphin tried to kill him.
The accusation might have seemed a little shocking, but the story begins to make a little more sense once the prophet of Swag began to explain things. As it turns out, it was an age-old story revolving around two males fighting for the love of a woman.
It all happened on a trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Young told his teammates, “He was playing with everybody else, doing what dolphins do — the ‘ack-ack’ and all that,” Young said. “It was my time to ride the dolphin. For some reason, he took me all the way to the bottom. He was trying to drown me. But I saw it happening so I jumped out of the water and took off the little life vest and threw off my little water shoes and stayed outside.”
Young explained that the dolphin in question was very sweet with Iggy. The dolphin was stealing kisses, doing tricks, and being openly flirtatious. Young remains convinced that the dolphin was trying to take him out because he was competition. The dolphin was not available for comment.
Young conquers his fears
One of the greatest things someone with a valid fear can do is conquer it. According to SB Nation, Nick Young did just that. He swam with a dolphin, and he liked it.
It’s unclear from the article where he swam, but it was in a pool so there was no fear of being pulled to the bottom of an ocean. It’s also unclear if Iggy was around. If she had been, then Young may have once again been in a battle to win Iggy’s affections.
Either way, Young faced down his fears. He got in a pool with a dolphin, and given the smile on his face, he had a good time. The dolphin also seemed to have a good time playing with Shaggy P.
The two probably would have had more fun if Young brought a basketball along. Young could have taught the dolphin some cool moves, and perhaps learned some new ones. Still, he conquered his fears, and for that, we congratulate him.
