The LA Dodgers Have Had Success in the Playoffs the Past Few Years, but No Rings to Show For

The LA Dodgers have been one of the most consistent teams in the MLB since 2013. They have appeared in eight straight playoffs since the 2013 season and have played in the World Series two times since then.

But the Dodgers have not been able to win a World Series during that span even though they have had many talented teams. Could this year be different?

When was the last time the Dodgers played in the World Series?

The Dodgers last played in the World Series in 2018, where they lost to the Boston Red Sox 4-1. At the end of the regular season, the Dodgers finished with a 92-71 record and won the NL West. In the playoffs, the Dodgers defeated the Atlanta Braves in the NL Division Series and the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Championship Series. The Dodgers advanced to their second consecutive World Series after losing to the Houston Astros in the 2017 World Series.

LA had a talented offense and pitching staff. Looking through their lineup during the 2018 season, they had players like Manny Machado, Yasiel Puig, and a young Cody Bellinger. On the mound, they had veteran ace Clayton Kershaw, Rich Hill, and Alex Wood. After defeating the Brewers in seven games during the NLCS, the Dodgers headed into the World Series with some momentum facing a talented Red Sox team. In the end, LA did not have enough left in the tank.

During the World Series, only one game was decided by one run, and that came in Game 3 when the Dodgers won 3-2 in 18 innings. Boston’s offense was clicking on all cylinders during the series, as they scored a total of 28 runs in the five games. It was a disappointing finish for the Dodgers as they could not bring a World Series title back to LA.

The LA Dodgers put together an impressive 2020 season

With the 2020 season shortened due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Dodgers took advantage of that. The Dodgers finished the season with a 43-17 record and won the NL West once again. Going into the playoffs, LA was the top seed in the west. During the first two series of the playoffs, LA had no problem as they swept the Brewers in the Wild Card Series and swept the San Diego Padres in the Division Series.

The Dodgers were one of the hottest teams going into the postseason, and they were set to have a successful 2020 season when they acquired All-Star outfielder Mookie Betts. On paper, the Dodgers have had some talented teams in recent years, and this year’s team has the potential to win a World Series title.
