Here Are the Most Likely Matchups for Super Bowl 53, According to Vegas
There are lots of reasons you should watch the Super Bowl, but three really come to mind: The great plays, the amazing commercials, and the chance to earn money from a winning bet. The Super Bowl is the biggest gambling event of the year with $100 million wagered in Las Vegas and somewhere between $5 and $10 billion worldwide. We’re guessing the next Super Bowl will follow that trend, and even though the game is months away you can already place your bet. Here’s a look at the most likely matchups for Super Bowl 53, according to Las Vegas oddsmakers.
We’ll discuss a pairing that would make fans in two football-crazy cities happy (No. 6), plus one matchup the oddsmakers love that we really don’t think will happen (No. 1).
14. Falcons vs. Steelers (TIE)

- Odds: +5500 (55-1)
The Atlanta Falcons and Pittsburgh Steelers play Oct. 7 in the Steel City, and those two teams could meet again for the title. If they play in the Super Bowl, fans would be treated to seeing two of the best quarterbacks in a generation, Atlanta’s Matt Ryan and Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger, play for the championship.
Next: A defensive star makes it to the big game.
14. Eagles vs. Texans (TIE)

- Odds: +5500 (55-1)
Playing in a Super Bowl is one of the only superlatives that has eluded J.J. Watt during his time with the Texans. Even though Houston can never put it all together in the postseason, Vegas believes this could be the year that all changes.
Next: A clash between two teams with plenty of titles.
14. Cowboys vs. Patriots

- Odds: +5500 (55-1)
Everyone wants to know when quarterback Tom Brady will finally retire and what will happen to the New England Patriots when he does. Brady is still on the team, and oddsmakers believe he can guide the Patriots to yet another Super Bowl appearance.
Next: Expect the unexpected?
12. Eagles vs. Jaguars (TIE)

- Odds: +5000 (50-1)
The perpetually underachieving Blake Bortles finally put it all together in 2017, and the Jaguars shed their cursed team label and very nearly made it to the Super Bowl. It was an unexpected run for Jacksonville, but Vegas expects them to be a contender in the 2018 season.
Next: A star veteran gets a title shot.
12. Eagles vs. Chargers (TIE)

- Odds: +5000 (50-1)
Philip Rivers is the Chargers all-time passing leader, and even though he hasn’t always many talented teammates, he’s guided the team to four wins in five playoff berths since 2006. If the Chargers make to Super Bowl 53 (whether or not they face the defending champion Eagles), it would be Rivers’ first appearance in the big game.
Next: One team would have the upper hand.
11. Saints vs. Steelers

- Odds: +4500 (45-1)
It’s usually a toss-up as to who wins the Super Bowl each year since the teams playing are so evenly matched, but if this is the Super Bowl 53 matchup, then you can make a case for the Saints. In addition to playing in Atlanta, where they play one game each season, recent history is on their side. New Orleans is 3-1 against Pittsburgh in the 21st century.
Next: Two loved NFL franchises could meet again.
10. Packers vs. Steelers

- Odds: +4000 (40-1)
The Green Bay Packers handed the Pittsburgh Steelers one of their two Super Bowl losses in 2011. The Las Vegas oddsmakers think the teams could meet for the title again. If you feel the same way, put down a $100 bet, and if the matchup happens, you’ll win a cool $4,000.
Next: Vegas thinks two top teams from 2017 could play for the title.
8. Vikings vs. Steelers (TIE)

- Odds: +3500 (35-1)
The Minnesota Vikings and Pittsburgh Steelers were two of the best NFL teams during the 2017 season, and the Vegas oddsmakers believe a Super Bowl 53 matchup is in the cards. Longtime NFL fans know these two teams played for a title before: The Steelers topped the Vikings 16-6 in Super Bowl IX in 1975.
Next: One team would have the home-field advantage while looking for redemption.
8. Falcons vs. Patriots (TIE)

- Odds: +3500 (35-1)
Atlanta is hosting Super Bowl 53, so the Falcons would have the home-field advantage in the game, but that’s not what makes this matchup so appealing. After suffering one of the biggest Super Bowl chokes ever, Atlanta would have a shot to knock off the team that embarrassed them in Super Bowl 51.
Next: We expect a ton of points in this matchup.
7. Rams vs. Steelers

- Odds: +3000 (30-1)
The Los Angeles Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers were 2017 division champions thanks to their high-powered offenses. The Rams scored an NFL-high 478 points, and with 406 points the Steelers were one of just a few teams to score more than 400. If these two teams meet in Super Bowl 53 we expect a ton of points, but we have no idea who will win.
Next: Two football-crazy cities would go insane if this matchup happens.
6. Eagles vs. Steelers

- Odds: +2900 (29-1)
The Las Vegas oddsmakers pegged this as a potential Super Bowl matchup for the 2017 season, and we know how that turned out. Philadelphia and Pittsburgh are football-crazy cities and this matchup would throw Pennsylvania into an insane frenzy. We just hope both teams don’t wear their totally ugly throwback uniforms if they meet in Super Bowl 53.
Next: Oddsmakers believe one team could make its second Super Bowl
5. Saints vs. Patriots

- Odds: +2800 (28-1)
The New Orleans Saints won their only Super Bowl in 2010 in their only championship game appearance, and we all know about the Patriots’ astonishing success in the 21st century. The 40-1 odds aren’t great, but there are longer longshots out there. We’re pretty sure underrated Saints QB Drew Brees will be the sentimental favorite to win against the scandal-plagued Patriots.
Next: A matchup featuring three surefire Hall of Fame players.
4. Packers vs. Patriots

- Odds: +2700 (27-1)
The Green Bay Packers handed the Patriots a Super Bowl loss in 1997, but we won’t be watching this Super Bowl 53 matchup just to see if New England can get revenge. We’ll be watching to see three Hall of Fame locks in action: Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, and Aaron Rodgers.
Next: This could have been a Super Bowl 52 matchup, too.
3. Vikings vs. Patriots

- Odds: +2400 (24-1)
The Minnesota Vikings vs. the New England Patriots was a Super Bowl 52 matchup the Vegas oddsmakers liked, but the Vikings laid an egg in the NFC championship game against the Eagles. The performance last season isn’t hurting Minnesota’s chances in the oddsmakers’ eyes. At 22-1, this is one of the most likely Super Bowl 53 matchups heading into the 2018 season.
Next: Adding to a legacy
2. Rams vs. Patriots

- Odds: +2100 (21-1)
The upstart Los Angeles Rams came out of nowhere to be one of the best teams in the NFL during the 2017 season, but there’s a bigger reason people would tune into this game. They’d be watching to find out if Tom Brady, probably the best quarterback in NFL history, adds to his astounding legacy with a sixth Super Bowl win.
Next: The matchup with the best Las Vegas odds doesn’t get our money.
1. Eagles vs. Patriots

- Odds: +1800 (18-1)
The Eagles topped the Patriots in Super Bowl 52 to win their first title, and it goes down as one of the most memorable title games ever. We’re not telling you how to spend your money, but we wouldn’t bet on this matchup happening in Super Bowl 53. Even though it has the best odds, the last time the same two teams played in back-to-back Super Bowls was 1993 and 1994 when the Cowboys and Bills squared off.
