Prior to their wild-card round matchup, Chase Young made it clear: he wanted Tom Brady. Well, Brady’s team ended up getting the best of Young’s, as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Washington Football Team, 31-23. However, Brady has since given Young exactly what he asked Brady for when the two faced each other last Saturday.
Chase Young said he wanted Tom Brady
Chase Young had an incredible college career with the Ohio State Buckeyes, especially in his final season there in 2019. Despite missing two games, Young racked up 16.5 sacks and seven forced fumbles. This led to him going to the Washington Football Team with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft.
Young then had a really successful rookie season with Washington. He earned a Pro Bowl selection, as he recorded 44 total tackles, 7.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, and he recovered three fumbles, one being for a touchdown. Young also helped lead Washington to the playoffs for the first time since 2015.
Additionally, when Washington clinched their spot in the playoffs and a date with Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Young then said, “I want Tom!”
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Washington Football Team
Before the 12-4 Buccaneers faced the 7-9 Washington Football Team, many weren’t giving Washington a chance. They, however, put themselves in a great position to win at the end of the game.
The Buccaneers led 18-7 at halftime, but Washington then made it 18-10 and then 18-16 with 2:14 left in the third quarter. Tampa then stretched the lead back to 28-16 with 9:11 left in the game, but Washington scored another touchdown with 4:51 left to make it 28-23. Washington then held Tampa to a field goal after that, and only trailed by eight with 2:49 left. They, however, ultimately turned it over on downs, though, and the Buccaneers won 31-23.
While the game was good, the Tom Brady vs. Chase Young matchup really wasn’t that competitive. Tampa Bay did an excellent job of containing Young, as he only had three total tackles. He also didn’t have any sacks or QB hits. Brady, though, had a great game, throwing for 381 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions.
Brady certainly gave Young what he asked for on the field. He also gave him exactly what he asked for after the game, too, though.
Tom Brady gave Chase Young exactly what he asked for
Tom Brady was mic’d up for the game, and the mic caught a conversation between him and Young once everything was over.
“Hey Chase, way to play, bro,” Brady said to Young, via the Buccaneers’ Twitter, in which Young replied, “I appreciate you. You the real GOAT. I need something from you, though.” He then grabbed Brady’s jersey and said, “I need this off of you.” Brady then said: “I’ll get it to you, I’ll send it to you.”
Sure enough, Brady delivered.
On Jan. 16, ESPN tweeted Tom Brady’s Instagram Story, in which he reposted Young’s story that featured a photo of Brady’s jersey that Brady had signed.
However, there was one thing on the jersey that Young probably didn’t appreciate. Brady, who went to Michigan, made sure to write “Go Blue” since Young went to Ohio State.
Despite a little bit of trash talk, it appears that Young and Brady have nothing but respect for each other. For Young’s sake, though, hopefully he gets another chance to sack Brady in a future season.
