The Dallas Cowboys continue to remain engulfed in the chatter around Dak Prescott‘s future. Jerry Jones and the Cowboys haven’t created any firm belief that things will work toward a new long-term deal this offseason. The lingering matter has now led Hall of Famer Troy Aikman to issue a strong warning to his former team regarding their star quarterback.

Uncertainty floating around Dak Prescott’s future with the Cowboys

At this point, the discussion around Dak Prescott’s future with the Dallas Cowboys has become quite draining.

Prescott hasn’t wavered in his desire to stay with the franchise for the long haul, but that hasn’t translated to the two sides working out a multi-year contract. Instead, the Cowboys still hold doubt regarding whether the Pro Bowl quarterback will be under center beyond the 2021 campaign.

The only thing that remains clear is that Dallas will place a franchise tag on Prescott ahead of free agency if they can’t agree to a new deal by then. Before things reach that point, Hall of Famer Troy Aikman has voiced a strong warning to his former team.

The Dallas Cowboys are heading into another offseason where Dak Prescott’s contract situation will be all the chatter around the franchise.

The lingering matter has presented ample time for many prominent figures around the league to voice their opinion on the subject. Among those most vocal has been Hall of Famer Troy Aikman, as he recently issued a strong warning for his former team in their handling of the contract discussions with the two-time Pro Bowler. “I’d be really surprised if he’s playing under the franchise tag again this year,” Aikman said. “My guess is if he is, that will be the last we see of Dak Prescott.

“I just can’t imagine that he’s going to feel really good giving an open negotiation to the Cowboys if he’s played two years under the franchise tag.”

Aikman holds tremendous respect and admiration toward Prescott that has grown due to how he’s navigated through the situation. The Cowboys great still doesn’t quite understand how the contract talks have remained unresolved over the last two years.

Aikman is a firm believer that Prescott has clearly shown he is the franchise cornerstone under center in Dallas. The only thing that remains is the two sides working out a new deal that keeps the 27-year-old in Dallas for many years ahead.

Throughout the entire contract negotiation process, Dak Prescott has made it abundantly clear he wants to remain in Dallas.

On numerous occasions, Prescott has voiced that he wants to play his entire career with the franchise that took him in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL draft. That alone shifts the onus over to the Cowboys to work out a lucrative deal with their star quarterback.

Prescott’s health is the focus as he returns from a season-ending broken leg, but his value to the franchise shined through the team’s struggles in his absence. At this point, there isn’t any knowledge about how comfortable Jerry Jones and the Cowboys are with paying the 27-year-old what he wants.

However, the longer this situation lingers on through the offseason, the more significant concern it creates for any chance of a long-term pairing between both sides ahead.
