Manchester United Reach Europa League Last-16

Manchester United were the overwhelming pre-match favourites with the best football betting sites but struggled to break down their Romanian opponents FCSB.

They did have their chances in the first-half with Kobbie Mainoo having the best opportunity when he blazed over the bar with the goal begging.

Mainoo had another effort saved while FCSB goalkeeper Stefan Tarnovanu parried away a half-volley from Christian Eriksen.

FCSB and Manchester United went into the break level and though the visitors looked comfortably in the last-16, Amorim wanted to see even more attacking intent from his side.

Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo came on at start of the second-half and the former hit the post within two minutes after a woeful backpass from a FCSB defender.

United fans would have wondered whether it was going to be their day when Bruno Fernandes also had a rasping 25-yard effort thunder off the crossbar.

But just moments later it was his Portuguese team-mate Diogo Dalot who opened the scoring after tapping home from an Amad Diallo cross.

Mainoo then doubled the lead eight-minutes later as he slotted home from an Alejandro Garnacho cross.

It sealed a comfortable victory for the Red Devils who finished third in the Europa League league phase – finishing behind Lazio and Athletic Bilbao.

By finishing in the top-eight they will avoid the rigmarole of a two-legged play-off to reach the last-16.
