Rory McIlroy Provides Injury Update As Northern Irishman Struggles With Elbow Problem Days Before Masters

The Northern Irishman will be hoping to win his first ever Masters and doing so would see McIlroy join an elite list of career ‘Grand Slam’ winners.

However, with the tournament just days away (starting April 10th) the world No.2 has been handed some frustrating news surrounding an elbow injury.

Most recently, the European golf star finished fifth at the Houston Open and during this event, McIlroy was suffering with this elbow issue – raising concerns for upcoming events.

During an interview with the Golf Channel, McIlroy confirmed that he will have some treatment on his elbow joint in the lead-up to the tournament and will smooth out any issues with his coach.

McIlroy said: “My right elbow has been bothering me a little bit so I’ll maybe just get some treatment on that and make sure that is OK going into Augusta,

“I’ve got my coach Michael Bannon coming in on Monday, we’ll do some work and make sure everything is in good shape for a week’s time.”

A major tournament win has been a difficult task for McIlroy to overcome in recent years, last winning a major in 2014 at the US PGA Championship.

In 2011, a 21-year-old McIlroy capitulated in the latter stages of the tournament and let his lead drop away in the final round.

He finished second in 2022, being ousted by the brilliant Scottie Scheffler and will be looking for revenge in April 2025.

This year has been a good one for the Northern Irish golf star so far, winning twice on the PGA Tour at the Players Championship and Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Despite this strong performance, McIlroy believes he is not at 100% in his overall game and will be working on things before heading to Augusta.

McIlroy said (Via Golf Channel): “It was a solid week. I still don’t think my game is 100% under the control I would want, but it’s nice to have a week to work on some things.”
