The 2024 Cesarewitch Handicap will always be remembered for ‘first-past-the-post’<\/em> Alphonse Le Grande<\/span> being disqualified for the jockey using the whip too many times. However, for one unlucky punter this Newmarket handicap will also be remebered for losing out on \u00a358,000 due to the amended result taking three days to be confirmed.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A horse racing<\/a> fan on Saturday 12th October wagered \u00a340 on an each-way Lucky 63 bet with the best horse racing betting sites in the UK<\/a> – covering six races at the two premier meetings that day – Newmarket and York (see below).<\/p>\n

With their first two selections winning- Bolster (SP 7\/1) and Strike Red (SP 6\/1) – the wager moved onto the Cesarewitch Handicap<\/strong> at 3:40pm at Newmarket, with the Simon and Ed Crisford-trained Manxman the selection.<\/p>\n

However, Chris Watson’s (@ChrisWatson86<\/a>) pick was chinned on the line – beaten just a nose by Alphonse Le Grande.<\/p>\n

But the drama didn’t end there as the stewards and eagled-eyed punters noticed that the jockey on the winner – Jamie Powell – seemed to use his whip 10 times in getting Alphonse Le Grande over the line in front.<\/p>\n

Which is four more than the permitted amount and should a rider hit their horse four more times it results in disqualification.<\/p>\n

The 2024 Cesarewitch Handicap was then referred to the BHA’s whip review committee – but the bad news for this Lucky 63 punter – is this review wasn’t going to be until Tuesday 15th October – three days AFTER the race.<\/p>\n
