Here’s the latest Aaron Ramsdale injury update as the Southampton keeper withdraws from England duty with a fractured finger.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 26-year-old former Arsenal<\/a> shot-stopper broke his finger in the Saints’ 2-0 loss to Wolves<\/a> last Saturday.<\/p>\n

Despite playing on for the entirety of the match, Ramsdale needs surgery to repair the fracture.<\/p>\n

It’s an unfortunate blow for the keeper, who had just earned his way back into the England setup.<\/p>\n

But with surgery scheduled for Wednesday, it’s not yet known how long Ramsdale will be sidelined for.<\/p>\n

Originally included in interim manager Lee Carsley’s final England squad<\/a>, he will now miss the upcoming Nations League matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland.<\/p>\n

Ramsdale’s withdrawal from the squad was confirmed in a statement by Southampton<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It said:\u00a0\u201cThe goalkeeper will miss the Nations League contests against Greece and Republic of Ireland due to an injury picked up in Saturday\u2019s Premier League game against Wolves.<\/p>\n

“Ramsdale will now remain with the medical staff at Staplewood Campus over the international break.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aaron Ramsdale Injury Update Gives Russell Martin Headache<\/h2>\n

With Ramsdale out, Southampton manager Russell Martin may have an issue between the posts.<\/p>\n

Irish international keeper Gavin Bazunu has been out since last season’s Championship playoff semi-final after rupturing his Achilles tendon.<\/p>\n

Bazunu is not expected back until the new year, meaning keeping duties will likely fall to veteran Alex McCarthy.<\/p>\n

The 34-year-old started Southampton’s opening two Premier League games before Ramsdale’s arrival from Arsenal, but has not played since the EFL Cup victory over Everton<\/a> in September.<\/p>\n

McCarthy has been a loyal servant to the south coast side, but there are question marks over his ability to play out from the back in the manner required by Russell Martin’s system.<\/p>\n

Ramsdale was therefore brought in over the summer for a fee of \u00a325 million. The ex-Arsenal man has so far made ten appearances since swapping the Emirates for St. Mary’s.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
