Claudio Ranieri has been named AS Roma head coach for the remainder of the season – just six months after he announced his retirement.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 73-year-old former Leicester City<\/a> manager will steady the ship and has also been drafted in to help the club find its next permanent boss.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the Italian side said Ranieri will\u00a0“transition into a senior executive role” at the end of the season.<\/p>\n

Having helped Cagliari to Serie A survival, Ranieri retired at the end of last season.<\/p>\n

But following the sacking of former manager Ivan Juric at the weekend, he has returned to help his hometown club.<\/p>\n

Juric spent just 12 games in charge of Roma, having taken over from Daniele de Rossi at the start of the season. De Rossi himself was only at the club for eight months after Jose Mourinho<\/a> left in January.<\/p>\n

Claudio Ranieri In Third Stint With Roma<\/h2>\n

This will be the third time Ranieri has managed Roma. He took charge from 2009-2011, and again as interim boss in 2019.<\/p>\n

In a career spanning 37 years and 18 clubs, he is one of the longest-serving managers in football.<\/p>\n

As well as a host of clubs, Ranieri also had a brief spell in charge of the Greek national team.<\/p>\n

But he will be best remembered for his time at Leicester City. With odds of 5000-1, Ranieri guided the Foxes to a miraculous Premier League title in 2016.<\/p>\n

Former Manchester City<\/a> manager, Roberto Mancini, had been linked to the Roma job.<\/p>\n

He has just left the Saudi Arabia national team, but Roma have instead opted for Ranieri.<\/p>\n

The club spent more then \u00a380m on new signings over the summer, but are languishing in 12th place in Serie A.<\/p>\n

Roma are also 20th in the Europa League, with only five points from four games.<\/p>\n
