Ruben Amorim is reportedly backing Manchester United’s pursuit of signing former player Angel Gomes on a free transfer.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Lille midfielder has been linked with a return to Old Trafford – four years since leaving the Red Devils.<\/p>\n

Gomes has impressed at the Ligue 1 side, making 129 appearances and scoring six goals. This led to him being called up to the senior England squad<\/a> for the first time under Lee Carsley.<\/p>\n

Now he finds himself in a similar position to when he left Manchester United back in 2020. His contract with Lille expires next summer and he can speak to clubs in January about signing a pre-contract agreement.<\/p>\n

Manchester United and Tottenham have both been linked with the 24-year-old.<\/p>\n

Despite the recent arrival of Ruben Amorim<\/a>, The Sun<\/a> claim United are still interested in signing Gomes.<\/p>\n

Ruben Amorim A ‘Long-Time Admirer’ Of Angel Gomes<\/h2>\n

Ruben Amorim<\/a> is behind plans to sign Angel Gomes on a free transfer, as he is a ‘long-time admirer’ of the midfielder.<\/p>\n

Sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox also rate him highly. Both men believe he can be a key cog under Amorim’s plans.<\/p>\n

Gomes would be an enticing transfer since he is available on a free next summer.<\/p>\n

United will have to spend big money<\/a> on signings to assist Amorim in his ambitions to help the club return to the top of English football.<\/a><\/p>\n

He would be seen as a long-term replacement for Casemiro, who has struggled to live up to expectations.<\/a><\/p>\n

Angel Gomes’ History With Manchester United<\/h2>\n

Angel Gomes joined Manchester United at the age of six, before breaking into the U18 side aged just 14.<\/p>\n

He became the club’s youngest player since Duncan Edwards in 1953 to make his top-flight debut aged 16 years and 263 days, when he came off the bench in a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace in May 2017.<\/p>\n

Hopes were high for Gomes but United were left shocked when he left the club in 2020, after only making a further four first-team appearances.<\/p>\n

However, fate could bring him back to the Red Devils as one of Ruben Amorim’s first signings.<\/p>\n
