Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has supported the club’s decision to appeal the severity of Rodrigo Bentancur’s ban for using a racial slur about team-mate Son Heung-min.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rodrigo Bentancur Handed Seven-Game Ban By The FA<\/h2>\n

Bentancur was handed a seven-match suspension for comments he made during a Uruguayan TV interview in June. The 27-year-old was also fined \u00a3100,000 and must complete a face-to-face education program.<\/p>\n

The midfielder won\u2019t be able to play any domestic\u00a0football<\/a>\u00a0until Boxing Day. He will miss Spurs\u2019 Premier League games with\u00a0Liverpool<\/a>, Chelsea and\u00a0Manchester City,<\/a>\u00a0as well as their League Cup quarter-final against\u00a0Manchester United.<\/a><\/p>\n

But Bentancur will be eligible for European games, as the FA ban only applies to domestic competitions.<\/p>\n

However, Spurs appealed<\/a> the decision to ban Bentancur for seven games.<\/p>\n

Ange Postecoglou Supports Tottenham’s Appeal Over Rodrigo Bentancur’s Ban<\/h2>\n

Tottenham on Wednesday said in a statement on their social media channels<\/a> that they wouldn\u2019t appeal the guilty verdict given against Rodrigo Bentancur which led to his ban. However, the north London club said that they would appeal the severity of it.<\/p>\n

And Spurs boss Postecoglou stands by his club’s decision to appeal.<\/p>\n

“It’s disappointing because he’s been great for us this year,” Postecoglou told Sky Sports<\/a>: “He’s one of the ones whose football has gone up a level. But we understood this was kind of coming and there was an acceptance from everyone that whatever the sort of penalties were\u2026 I fully support the club’s decision to appeal the severity of the ban, but ultimately we know it’s going to be for X number of games.<\/p>\n

“We will work with Rodrigo through that and make sure within that time he has all our support in all the right ways so when he is available again he’s ready to go.<\/p>\n
