{"id":20118,"date":"2024-11-22T11:51:11","date_gmt":"2024-11-22T11:51:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/?p=20118"},"modified":"2024-11-22T11:51:11","modified_gmt":"2024-11-22T11:51:11","slug":"manchester-city-premier-league-apt-rule-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/manchester-city-premier-league-apt-rule-change\/","title":{"rendered":"Manchester City Lose Fight To Prevent Premier League APT Rule Change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Premier League clubs have voted to change sponsorship rules in the top-flight, despite heavy opposition from Manchester City.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Manchester City Did Not Want the APT Rules To Be Changed<\/h2>\n<p>The vote to update the league&#8217;s rules on Associated Party Transaction (APT) came about after a legal dispute between the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/how-much-money-every-premier-league-owner-has-invested\/\">Premier League<\/a> and Manchester City.<\/p>\n<p>The Premier League rejected the champions&#8217; claim that a new deal between the club and their shirt and stadium sponsors Etihad Airways had been at a fair market price (FMV).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/erling-haaland-contract-update\/\">Man City<\/a> believed sections of the previous rules were &#8220;unlawful&#8221;, leading to the ballot being formed.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Premier League clubs have approved changes to the competition&#39;s Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules despite the challenge of Manchester City. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/cAFQGR0FDq\">pic.twitter.com\/cAFQGR0FDq<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SkySportsPL\/status\/1859920557116149937?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 22, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The ballot needed 14 of the 20 Premier League clubs to vote in its favour to make the amendments. City reportedly warned their Premier League counterparts to reject the new amendments and vote against them.<\/p>\n<p>However, on Friday, 16 of the 20 English top-flight clubs voted to change the rules.<\/p>\n<h2>Premier League Say Rule Changes Come Following Man City&#8217;s Legal Challenge<\/h2>\n<p>A Premier League statement read: \u201cThe amendments to the rules address the findings of an Arbitration Tribunal following a legal challenge by\u00a0Manchester City\u00a0to the APT system earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe\u00a0Premier League\u00a0has conducted a detailed consultation with clubs &#8211; informed by multiple opinions from expert, independent Leading Counsel &#8211; to draft rule changes that address amendments required to the system.<\/p>\n<p id=\"amp-readmore-target\">\u201cThis relates to integrating the assessment of Shareholder loans, the removal of some of the amendments made to APT rules earlier this year and changes to the process by which relevant information from the League\u2019s \u2018databank\u2019 is shared with a club\u2019s advisors.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The purpose of the APT rules is to ensure clubs are not able to benefit from commercial deals or reductions in costs that are not at Fair Market Value (FMV) by virtue of relationships with Associated Parties.
