Ex-Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has branded Mo Salah as ‘selfish’ for making public comments about his Reds contract situation.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Salah, 32, told reporters he is “probably more out than in” after Sunday’s victory over Southampton<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With the club yet to offer the Egyptian forward a new deal, it seems his time at Anfield is drawing to a close.<\/p>\n

Having scored 12 goals in all competitions, he is Liverpool’s top scorer this season, and fifth in the all-time charts.<\/p>\n

But his latest comments have upset former Reds player, Jamie Carragher<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Carragher told Sky Sports<\/em>‘ Monday Night Football: “I must say I am very disappointed with Mo Salah.<\/p>\n

“Liverpool have Real Madrid<\/a> midweek and Man City<\/a> at the weekend. That’s the story right now.”<\/p>\n

Former defender Carragher played 737 times for Liverpool in all competitions, second only to Ian Callaghan in the all-time appearance table.<\/p>\n

He added: “If he keeps putting comments out, his agent puts out cryptic messages, that is selfish. That is thinking about themselves and not the football club.”<\/p>\n

There has been no response from Liverpool about Salah’s comments, but it is reported that discussions between the club, Salah and his agent are ongoing.<\/p>\n

Jamie Carragher Says Liverpool Will Move On From Mo Salah<\/h2>\n

Mo Salah isn’t the only high-profile player out of contract with Liverpool in the summer.<\/p>\n

Captain Virgil van Dijk<\/a> and England international Trent Alexander-Arnold<\/a> are both in the final year of their respective deals.<\/p>\n

But Carragher argues the club have more important priorities for now.<\/p>\n

“The most important thing for Liverpool Football Club this season isn’t the future of Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold,” he added.<\/p>\n

“The most important thing is Liverpool winning the Premier League.<\/p>\n

“I hope they don’t feel like this club would fall apart if they left. Steven Gerrard left the club and the next manager won the Premier League. Graeme Souness left and Liverpool won the Double.<\/p>\n

“Salah, would we miss him? Of course we would. But Liverpool will move on.”<\/p>\n

BBC 5 Live Presenters Suggest Salah Wants To Stay At Liverpool<\/h2>\n

But while Carragher has been discussing Liverpool if Salah leaves, others think the player’s comments indicate his desire to remain at Anfield.<\/p>\n

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live<\/em>, former Chelsea and Blackburn striker Chris Sutton said: “It wasn’t one of those where Mo Salah was asked to talk, he actually made an approach and wanted to speak to a couple of press guys to get things off his chest.<\/p>\n

“So in that respect it says to me that he wants to stay.”<\/p>\n

And Rory Smith of The Athletic<\/em> argued Salah is trying to make it clear his departure would not be of his own choosing.<\/p>\n

Smith said:\u00a0“It strikes me that he is making it very clear to the Liverpool fans that he wants to stay and that if he doesn’t end up staying that it’s not really a lack of intent on his part.<\/p>\n

“The problem will be his age. Liverpool will be looking at the vast data set you have of footballers over the last 20, 30 years, which suggests that at some point in your mid-30s your performances do dip. They will wonder whether is it worth committing \u00a3300,000 a week or so to a player who might only have another year at this level.<\/p>\n

“Or maybe he will have another two years at this level? Or another five or six? That’s the gamble Liverpool have to take.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
