Manchester United have been urged to cut their losses and sell Antony amid claims that his personality ‘doesn’t sit well’ with his teammates.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Brazilian winger<\/a> has struggled to justify his \u00a385m price tag since joining from Ajax in the summer of 2022.<\/p>\n

Erik ten Hag<\/a> struggled to get the best out of a player he previously coached at Ajax. In 89 appearances for the club, the Brazilian has scored just 12 goals – five in the Premier League.<\/p>\n

New United boss Ruben Amorim<\/a> will want to see more of Antony before he makes a decision on his future.<\/p>\n

However, a former Manchester United<\/a> assistant believes Antony should be sold.<\/p>\n

Rene Meulensteen Insists Manchester United Should Sell Antony<\/h2>\n

Rene Meulensteen, who served under Sir Alex Ferguson<\/a>, believes Manchester United should let Antony go in the January transfer window.<\/p>\n

He told Lucky Block<\/a> as per Goal: “Manchester United might have to bite the bullet and cut their losses with Antony in January, because I don\u2019t think he has the attributes to contribute to what Ruben Amorim wants.<\/p>\n

\u201cI find it difficult to see where he fits into this team. He’s been one of the biggest misfiring transfers in the Premier League in recent years.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the biggest thing that has held Antony back is his own personality. He\u2019s got certain characteristics that don\u2019t sit very well with some of the other players.<\/p>\n

“Away from that though, there\u2019s a lack of effectiveness as a player. He\u2019s very predictable in the way he wants to cut in on his left foot. We hardly see any quality assists or chance creation from him and I think we could see him elsewhere by the end of January.\u201d<\/p>\n

Antony’s Future Uncertain At Old Trafford<\/h3>\n

As reported by the Mirror,<\/a> Antony is in ‘last-chance saloon’ at Manchester United under Amorim.<\/p>\n

The Brazilian started at wing-back in United’s recent 3-2 win over Bodo\/Glimt in the Europa League.<\/p>\n

Amorim iscussing the 24-year-old’s display alongside that of substitute Amad Diallo<\/a>, the United boss said: “Today, Amad and Antony, they acted like a winger, and they stay open.<\/p>\n

“What I want is a good one against one, to open the field, to play, to close the field when we lose the ball. And it is the same in every team. I think the structure is more fluid than you guys think with the three defenders.”<\/p>\n

Antony’s form will have to be more consistent under Amorim than it was with Ten Hag, if he is to have any chance of staying at the Red Devils for the long-term.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
