After 99 minutes of football, Liverpool took all three points, comfortably beating Leicester 3-1 at Anfield.<\/p>\n

It seemed a foregone conclusion before the game, but the Foxes stunned the hosts and raced away to an early lead.<\/p>\n

Six minutes in, Stephy Mavididi set up Jordan Ayew for a tidy finish inside the box. The veteran forward used his strength to great effect to hold off Andy Robertson’s challenge and create space for the finish.<\/p>\n

Despite the goal, Leicester were on the backfoot for most of the match. Robertson and Mohamed Salah<\/a> both hit the woodwork in the first half before Cody Gakpo levelled the scoreline on the stroke of halftime with a strong contender for goal of the month.<\/p>\n

The Dutchman unleashed a brilliant curling shot from outside the penalty area that dipped over Jakub Stolarczyk and nestled into the side-netting.<\/p>\n

Liverpool started the second half strong too, with Curtis Jones giving them the lead four minutes after the break through an easy tap-in from Alexis Mac Allister’s low cut-back pass.<\/p>\n

The first of two lengthy VAR checks took place for that goal, but it was eventually awarded.<\/p>\n

In the 68th minute, Gakpo thought he had a brace when he tucked away a loose ball, but the second long VAR check of the match ruled the goal out.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, Salah added further gloss by netting his 100th home goal in the Premier League<\/a> (two for Chelsea<\/a>, 98 for Liverpool) with a neat curled finish around the keeper with his left boot.<\/p>\n

Leicester were never really in the game, even when they were, as evidenced by their overwhelmingly low xG of 0.33 compared to the hosts’ generated xG of 1.83.<\/p>\n
