Barcelona’s appeal for Dani Olmo’s precautionary registration for the remainder of the season, meaning he may not be able to play from 1 January.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 26-year-old Spanish international returned to Barca from German club RB Leipzig<\/a> in the summer for around \u00a350m.<\/p>\n

But he was only registered for the first half of the season due to Barcelona<\/a> not meeting La Liga’s wage cap.<\/p>\n

On Friday, a court rejected the club’s appeal – a decision welcomed by the league.<\/p>\n

In a statement, it said: “La Liga has today learned of the ruling… rejecting the request for the provisional registration of Dani Olmo until June 30, 2025, on the grounds that none of the necessary conditions for the adoption of an interim measure have been met.<\/p>\n

“The ruling also stresses that ‘the purpose of allowing additional spending is so that a long-term injury does not weaken the team’s competitiveness, not to use a long-term injury to allow the registration of players whose salaries exceed the limit, which is what FC Barcelona is attempting’.”<\/p>\n

Dani Olmo Registration Situation Leaves Barcelona In Trouble<\/h2>\n

Olmo was registered for Barcelona after they suffered several long-term injuries. This allowed them to allocate some of their wage cap towards registering a player for additional cover.<\/p>\n

But his four-month registration expires on 31 December, with the Commercial Court number 10 of Barcelona rejecting the club’s request to register him until the end of the campaign.<\/p>\n

According to reports in Spain, Barca have filed an appeal to the magistrates, which will be heard on Monday.<\/p>\n

Olmo left Barcelona as a youth player, joining Dinamo Zagreb<\/a> aged 16. The decision to refuse his registration was initially made by La Liga’s Budget Validation Body.<\/p>\n

The ruling was then confirmed by the Financial Fair Play Committee, the Social Appeals Committee and the UEFA Second Instance Licensing Committee of the Spanish Football Federation.<\/p>\n

Having scored six goals in 15 appearances for Barcelona this season, Olmo also lifted the Euros with Spain over the summer.<\/p>\n

Barcelona are currently third in La Liga, three points below leaders Atletico Madrid<\/a> – who beat them 2-1 at home on 21 December.<\/p>\n

Their next fixture is a Copa Del Rey last-32 tie at home to fourth-tier side UD Barbastro on Saturday 4 January.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
