Elite Ukrainian boxer Vasyl Lomachenko sets himself New Year’s Day deadline amid rumours the three-weight world champion could be retiring. ‘Loma’ is considering whether to continue boxing or not, having been out of the ring for over seven months.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Vasyl Lomachenko Sets Himself Retirement Deadline<\/h2>\n

When it comes to boxing icons and master tacticians, Vasyl Lomachenko is a name regularly mentioned. The Ukrainian was a standout amateur boxer before turning professional, as well as becoming a three-weight world champion in the pro ranks.<\/p>\n

Now, Lomachenko seems to have a big decision to make as questions over his future have come to the fore. The 36-year-old hasn’t fought since May earlier this year, with some boxing<\/a> fans hinting that the great ‘Loma’ may have hung up his gloves for good.<\/p>\n

However, Lomachenko himself is yet to make an official announcement about his future. That being said, the great Ukrainian has seemingly set himself a retirement decision deadline, with New Year’s Day being the day he has hinted at making his big decision.<\/p>\n

Boxing fans last saw Vasyl Lomachenko in action in May 2024, where he stopped former world champion George Kambosos Jr to win the IBF World Lightweight Title. Now, it seems ‘Loma’ had to make up his mind as to whether he will continue fighting or not.<\/p>\n

Bob Arum Says Lomachenko ‘Promised’ To Make Retirement Call On January 1st<\/h3>\n

The two-weight Olympic gold medallist and three-division world champion has a big call to make about his future, that is for sure. Boxing fans will of course want to see the great Vasyl Lomachenko continue fighting, but that might not be the case come the New Year.<\/p>\n

The 396-1 amateur boxer recently met with Top Rank promoter Bob Arum regarding his future, with a further meeting set for early in 2025.<\/p>\n

Arum, a Hall of Fame boxing<\/a> promoter, has represented Lomachenko for several years now. As one of the best fighters of the 21st century, Arum admits he won’t press ‘Loma’ into making a decision, but has revealed in an interview with Sky Sports<\/em> that the Ukrainian will make his own call on his career in early January:<\/p>\n

“They told me that he was going back to Ukraine because he had to be with his kids who are in school and there was bombing outside and he didn’t feel he was in the position at that point to talk about a future fight,” Arum told\u00a0Sky Sports.<\/em><\/p>\n

“He promised that after the first of the year he would make a decision. So what that decision [will be?] I think it’s true that he didn’t know at that point what decision he would make.<\/em><\/p>\n

“I don’t want to disturb him, I don’t want to rush him. He’s been terrific,”<\/em> Arum concluded.<\/p>\n

Time will tell what happens next for Vasyl Lomachenko. He may well hang his gloves up for good and retire, or he may continue fighting and chase bigger fights in 2025 and beyond. Whatever ‘Loma’ does, boxing fans will be behind him.<\/p>\n
