Michael van Gerwen will face Callan Rydz in the PDC World Championship<\/a> quarter finals after beating Jeffrey de Graaf 4-2.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Dutchman soared to a 4-2 win to book a place in the next round, as he hopes to win his fourth PDC World Championship.<\/p>\n

The World No.3 has not won the tournament since 2017, coming closest back in 2022\/23 after losing to Michael Smith in the final.<\/p>\n

Van Gerwen made a strong start to the match, winning the first set 3-1 and dominating in the following set to gain a 2-0 lead.<\/p>\n

The darts legend boasted a 103.22 average after the first two legs, while also checking 118 out in the process \u2013 hitting just two 180\u2019s.<\/p>\n

Van Gerwen is one of the favourites to win the competition on UK betting sites<\/a> behind the likes of Luke Littler after Luke Humphries was eliminated by Peter Wright.<\/p>\n

The reigning world champion and Snakebite had some choice words for each other before the match, but it was the Scotsman who secured a 4-1 victory.<\/p>\n

Van Gerwen’s lead was cut in half during the third leg, as De Graaf secured his first set of the match and put pressure on the three-time champion.<\/p>\n

Things were made even more interesting after the fourth set, as the Swede tied the game up at 2-2 and increased his average to 96.4 – finding five 180’s in the match up to that point.<\/p>\n

The match began to get cagey but Van Gerwen managed to find some composure and clinched the fifth set to move one away from reaching the quarter final.<\/p>\n

The Dutchman managed to win the final set in a 3-0 whitewash to secure a 4-2 win overall, averaging 101.98, hitting six 180’s and checking out 126 as his highest finish.<\/p>\n

Van Gerwen will now face Callum Rydz in the quarter finals, after Rydz picked up a 4-3 win over Robert Owen earlier in the day.<\/p>\n
