I\u2019ve played this beautiful game for over 10 years and have achieved three top 10k finishes in the last five seasons, including finishing 700th in the world in 22\/23 and 1330th last season.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anyone who knows me from the Twitter community will tell you I\u2019m incredibly humble and don\u2019t like to bring that up often. Apologies in advance if you don\u2019t like Expected Goals and Assists; if that isn\u2019t your thing, my articles may leave you feeling nauseous.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the first in a new series on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\">Sportscasting<\/a>, I\u2019m going to give you my FPL Gameweek 1 tips, including a captain pick and one recommended pick per position.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Pingreen\u2019s FPL Gameweek 1 Tips<\/h2>\n<h4><b>Captain Pick \u2013 Alexander Isak (\u00a38.5m)<\/b><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fixture: Southampton, Home<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I was torn between two names for my captain pick: Mo Salah and Alexander Isak. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both are playing against newly promoted sides. Should I lean towards Isak at home to Southampton or the Egyptian King away to Ipswich? Ultimately, I realised Salah isn\u2019t even in my Gameweek 1 team, and in the game\u2019s current state, you can\u2019t captain a player you don\u2019t own. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Long story short, my captain this week is Isak. With Callum Wilson injured again, Isak will be the key man for Newcastle and should start the season with a bang against the Saints. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Swede averaged an incredible 0.81 xG (Expected Goals) per 90 last season, second only to Erling Haaland. He will also be on penalty duty in Wilson\u2019s absence, which is a big selling point for captaincy.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Defender \u2013 Pedro Porro \u2013 \u00a35.5m<\/b><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Fixture: Leicester, Away<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I hate the term \u201cessential\u201d; it\u2019s stupid. No player is essential; you can build your team and spend your budget in multiple ways. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That being said, Pedro Porro is essential. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last season, the Spaniard provided seven assists in 35 appearances and also contributed three goals. His average position under Postecoglou was higher than my hairline, and it\u2019s not surprising to see he averaged 0.29 xG + xA per 90 (Expected Goals + Expected Assists) across the season. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The only defenders who averaged more were Alexander-Arnold, Robertson, and Trippier, all of whom cost at least \u00a30.5m more than Porro. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With opening fixtures against Leicester and Everton, he\u2019s a fantastic pick to start the season.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Midfielder \u2013 Bruno Fernandes \u2013 \u00a38.5m<\/b><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fixture: Fulham, Home<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s a theme with my three picks for Gameweek 1; I believe they\u2019re all massively underpriced. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I take no pride in putting Bruno Fernandes on this list; he\u2019s been an incredibly frustrating player to own over the years. That being said, I really can\u2019t ignore him at \u00a38.5m. When he\u2019s not complaining to the referee or feigning an injury, he\u2019s still an incredibly influential player for United, scoring 10 goals and providing eight assists last campaign.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> I tried to avoid watching United as much as possible last year, but when I did, I couldn\u2019t help but notice his teammates miss chance after chance created by Fernandes, which would\u2019ve seen those assist numbers rise even more. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fact he\u2019ll likely be on penalties, free kicks, and corners makes him a shoe-in for my team.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Forward \u2013 Adam Armstrong \u2013 \u00a35.5m<\/b><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fixture: Newcastle, Away<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019ll be honest, I wrote this piece with Jo\u00e3o Pedro as my striker selection. Then, late at night on Wednesday Fabrizio Romano popped up with a \u201cHere we go\u201d announcing that Brighton are in advanced stages to sign Georginio Rutter from Leeds United.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> I immediately updated my FPL team, replacing the Brazilian with Southampton\u2019s Adam Armstrong, and I\u2019m making the same swap in this article. Armstrong, priced at \u00a35.5m, was always on my radar. He had an impressive 37 goal contributions in 49 games last season. The big question is whether he can maintain that level in the Premier League. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The last time the Saints were in the top flight, he managed only two goals and two assists in 17 starts. However, at \u00a35.5m, he allows me to allocate funds elsewhere in my team. I\u2019m backing Martin-ball to give the Saints and Armstrong a better shot this time around.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And there we have it.
