The Colombian was judged to have deliberately stamped on Newcastle&#8217;s Fabian Schar.<\/p>\n<p>But the decision was questioned by fans of both sides, as replays appeared to show Duran losing his footing and making contact with Schar accidentally.<\/p>\n<p>Duran was himself charged separately after his reaction to the sending-off.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\u201cI\u2019m going red card\u201d \ud83e\udd21 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/AVFC?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#AVFC<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ieOPdOFAiZ\">pic.twitter.com\/ieOPdOFAiZ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Max Stokes (@villaontour_) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/villaontour_\/status\/1876737530688643151?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 7, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>But it was the actions of players and staff from both teams at half-time that have earned each club further sanctions.<\/p>\n<h2>Newcastle And Aston Villa Staff Charged As Well As Club<\/h2>\n<p>Newcastle&#8217;s assistant head coach Jason Tindall was sent off, along with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/ipswich-town-agree-20m-fee-for-aston-villas-jaden-philogene\/\">Aston Villa<\/a> analyst Victor Manas.<\/p>\n<p>The pair have each been charged individually for acting in an improper manner, on top of the wider club punishment.<\/p>\n<p>Both managers were incensed by the situation, with Magpies boss Eddie Howe giving an honest assessment.<\/p>\n<p>When asked if the altercation amounted to a &#8217;20-man melee&#8217;, he didn&#8217;t disagree.<\/p>\n<p>Howe said: &#8220;Yeah, I don&#8217;t think that&#8217;s far off.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These things always start out, I don&#8217;t think, with the intention of it happening in the way that it did.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There was probably 17 or 18 people trying to calm it down, but what it looks like then are more people are involved.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Aston Villa boss Unai Emery was enraged by the decision to send off Jhon Duran.<\/p>\n<p>He voiced his displeasure throughout the first half, with Newcastle coach Tindall seen &#8216;shushing&#8217; Emery on the sidelines.<\/p>\n<p>Both clubs and the two staff members charged have until 13 January to respond the the FA charges.<\/p>\n<p>Newcastle&#8217;s next game is on Sunday, when they host League Two side Bromley on the FA Cup.<\/p>\n<p>Villa, meanwhile, face <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/graham-potter-west-ham-manager-appointment-confirmed\/\">West Ham<\/a> in their FA Cup tie on Friday night.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Newcastle United and Aston Villa have both been charged by the FA after a half-time incident on Boxing Day.
