{"id":29764,"date":"2025-01-09T16:11:17","date_gmt":"2025-01-09T16:11:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/?p=29764"},"modified":"2025-01-09T16:11:17","modified_gmt":"2025-01-09T16:11:17","slug":"luton-rob-edwards-leaves-mutual-agreement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/luton-rob-edwards-leaves-mutual-agreement\/","title":{"rendered":"Rob Edwards Leaves Luton By Mutual Agreement Following Four Consecutive Defeats"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Rob Edwards has officially left his role as Luton Town manager by mutual agreement following four consecutive defeats in the Championship, with the club lingering above the relegation zone. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/victor-moses-transfers-to-luton-town\/\">Luton Town<\/a> boss Rob Edwards has officially left the club, with the Championship outfit confirming his departure by mutual agreement following four successive league defeats on Thursday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Edwards was appointed manager at Kenilworth Road in November 2022, guiding the club to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/every-premier-league-club-january-transfers-2024-25\/\">Premier League<\/a> promotion for the first time in over 30 years in his first season after they defeated Coventry in the play-off final.<\/p>\n<p>The Hatters suffered immediate demotion back down to the second-tier, finishing their top-flight season in 18th place, and despite this, the club backed Edwards and decided to remain with the Welshman at the helm.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately for the 42-year-old though, his tenure has been cut short following Monday&#8217;s 2-1 defeat to QPR, with Luton lingering in a lowly 20th place, just two points clear of Hull and Cardiff in the relegation zone.<\/p>\n<p>Edwards&#8217; assistants, Richie Kyle and Paul Trollope, as well as former boss Mick Harford, will take charge of Saturday&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/fa-cup-prize-money\/\">FA Cup<\/a> third round tie away at Nottingham Forest while the club conducts a search for their next permanent manager.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We can confirm that Rob Edwards has left his role as manager by mutual agreement.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Luton Town FC (@LutonTown) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LutonTown\/status\/1877353471676133499?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 9, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2>&#8216;Legendary&#8217; Rob Edwards Departs Luton By Mutual Agreement<\/h2>\n<p>In a club statement, Luton Town CEO Gary Sweet said: <em>\u201cAs with all decisions to part company with a manager, this has been a tough decision to arrive at, together with Rob, who has conducted himself with great professionalism and dignity throughout his two years at the Club, and again this week as we have genuinely come to a mutual conclusion.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cRob has given us some of our greatest days to celebrate as Hatters. Those two barnstorming derby victories at Kenilworth Road, the play-off final at Wembley and our season in the Premier League will live with us forever and in doing so Rob has earned himself a legendary status.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cResults this season, especially away from home, have clearly not been acceptable and while we have supported Rob and his team in every possible way, we all felt that action was required to rectify this with 20 league matches still to play.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIt is typical of Rob\u2019s humility that he also recognised this himself and leaves not just as a former manager, but as a trusted friend who has left his mark on every player and member of staff.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cRob and his family will always be welcome visitors to Kenilworth Road. The door is always open. On behalf of the board, I would like to give him our heartfelt thanks for two years of tireless work and so many memories, wishing him every success for his future career.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Edwards &#8216;Proud&#8217; Of Achievements, With Luton In &#8216;Great Shape&#8217; Going Forward<\/h3>\n<p>The club released a follow-up statement to their own, with Edwards delivering a final message to the Hatters&#8217; players, staff and supporters as he departs the Bedfordshire-based outfit.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;It&#8217;s been a privilege to manage Luton Town, but now is the right time for me to move on, for the club and me,&#8221;<\/em> he wrote.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I&#8217;m really proud of what we achieved, not only winning a play-off game which the club had struggled to do, but winning the final and gaining promotion to the Premier League at Wembley was the most amazing experience!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;To the fans, my memories will be 3,000 of you at Stamford Bridge after the final whistle and a 3-0 defeat, singing and making the noise of 50,000 people. Your support meant the world to me. You were great.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Thanks to those who have continued to support during more difficult times.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;The club is in great shape, financially, in a really strong position with an exciting new stadium on the horizon.
