Liverpool legend and former Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has left Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq after mutually agreeing to part company.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Steven Gerrard Departs Al-Ettifaq<\/h2>\n

Former Liverpool<\/a> and England midfielder Steven Gerrard has left his role as manager of Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq after reaching a mutual agreement to part ways.<\/p>\n

Gerrard departs with ‘The Commandos’ sitting in 12th place in the Saudi top-flight table, having lost eight of their 17 league matches thus far this term. Quite the drop from their sixth-place finish last season.<\/p>\n

After being sacked by Aston Villa<\/a> in October 2022, the 44-year-old joined Al-Ettifaq in the summer of 2023. Six months later, he penned a new contract extension, tying him to the club until the summer of 2027.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to express my gratitude to the club, the players, the fans, and everyone involved for the opportunity and the support during my time here,” he said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom the first day I was warmly welcomed and I have enjoyed the chance to work in a new country with a different culture.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo overall I have learnt a lot and it\u2019s been a positive experience personally and for my family as well. But football is unpredictable and sometimes things don\u2019t go the way we want.<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, I leave with great respect for the club and the country. I have no doubt that the work being done will bring success in the future, and I wish the team the very best for the rest of the season.\u201d<\/p>\n

Al-Ettifaq Statement: “Steven Gerrard Changed The Club For The Better”<\/h3>\n

In a statement released on Al-Ettifaq’s social channels on Thursday afternoon, club president Samer Al Misehal said: “First and foremost, we extend our sincere gratitude to Steven for his dedication and hard work during his time with the club.<\/p>\n

“Some things don’t go as planned, but the firm foundations he helped will guarantee a bright future in the long term. He changed the club for the better, and that will never be forgotten.<\/p>\n

“This decision, made with mutual respect and in agreement, is in the best interest of both Steven and the club as we move forward.”<\/p>\n
