Feyenoord Secure Champions League Last-16 Spot

Feyenoord sealed their place in the Champions League last 16 after a dramatic 1-1 draw against AC Milan at San Siro on Tuesday night.

The result sees the Dutch side advance 2-1 on aggregate, knocking out the seven-time European champions.

Julian Carranza was the hero for Feyenoord, heading in the decisive goal in the 73rd minute to cancel out Santiago Gimenez’s lightning-fast opener for Milan.

The Argentine substitute made an instant impact, capitalising on Milan’s numerical disadvantage after Theo Hernandez’s controversial red card early in the second half.

Hernandez, already on a yellow card for a reckless challenge on Anis Hadj-Moussa, was given his marching orders after being adjudged to have dived in the penalty box under pressure from Givairo Read.

His dismissal proved pivotal as Milan, who had dominated much of the first half, struggled to cope with Feyenoord’s attacking pressure.

Gimenez Scores Against Former Club

Santiago Gimenez had put Milan ahead just 37 seconds into the match, nodding home from close range to give the Rossoneri a dream start – one of the fastest goals in Champions League history.

The Mexican forward, who joined Milan from Feyenoord in the January transfer window, has been in prolific form, netting his sixth Champions League goal of the season.

However, his early strike was ultimately in vain as Milan failed to hold onto their lead.
